Abstract
This
project investigated individuals’ awareness on the nutritional and health
benefits of land snail consumption in Okpokunou Community. To guide this study,
four research questions were formulated which include: Are the people of
Okpokunou community aware of the nutritional and health benefits of land snail?
Do the people of Okpokunou consume land snails? etc. The descriptive survey
research design was adopted for the study and a sample size of 180 respondents
was selected for the study using the simple and stratified random sampling
technique. The instrument for data collection was the questionnaire; and data
collected were analyzed using frequency distribution table and simple
percentage method. Upon analyzing the data collected it was revealed that the
people of Okpokunou are aware of the nutritional and health benefits of land
snail consumption but there are some people in the community who do not consume
it due to their ancestral beliefs. Based on this, the researcher recommends
that there should be adequate awareness on the consumption of land snail that can
change their ancestral belief against its consumption.
