Data presentation and analysis of result

Analysis of
objective  I
To examine the level of awareness of soil erosion in
Sapele metropolis
·
Ho: The people are not aware of soil
erosion in Sapele metropolis
·
Ha: The people are aware of soil
erosion in Sapele metropolis.

Questions 1, 2 and 3 are set of related question in
the questionnaire.

Table 4.1 above shows the total respondent that
responded “Agreed” to the set of related question are 155 while those that
responded “Strongly agreed” to the set of related question are 340, those that
responded “Disagreed” are 55, while those that responded to “Strongly disagreed”
are 50. The calculated chi – square x² at 6df is 12.592. Therefore, applying
decision rule, since x² calculated is greater than 0.05 = 12.592, the
researcher therefore conclude that there are no significant level of awareness
of soil erosion in Sapele metropolis.
Analysis of
objective II
To find out if
there are factors responsible for soil erosion in Sapele metropolis.
·
Ho: There are no factors responsible
for soil erosion in Sapele metropolis.
·
Ha: There are factors responsible
for soil erosion in Sapele metropolis.

Table 4.2 Shows that out of 200 respondents, 170
“Agreed”, 260 “Strongly agreed”, 107 “Disagreed” and 63 “Strongly disagreed” that
there are factors responsible for soil erosion. Details in appendix II shows
that X² calculated value 29.69 while x² table value is 12.59 with degree of
freedom (df) at 6 and alpha (α) and level at 0.05 therefore the applying the
decision rule since x² calculated value 29.69 ≥ x² table 0.05 is 12.59, we
therefore conclude that there are factor responsible for soil erosion in Sapele
metropolis.
Analysis of
objective III
To know if the government has plans towards the
control of soil erosion in Sapele metropolis
·
Ho: The government has no plans to
control soil erosion in Sapele metropolis
·
Ha: The government has plan to

Table 4.3 above shows that the total respondents that
“Agreed” to the related question are 126, 70 “Strongly agreed”, 131 “Disagreed”
and 95 “Strongly disagreed”. The chi – square (x²) value is 10.16 while the
value of x² at 6df is 12.59. therefore applying the decision rule, since x²
calculate 10.16 is lesser than null hypothesis (Ho), the researcher concluded
that the government has plans to control soil erosion in Sapele metropolis (see
details in appendix IV).

objective IV
To find out possible ways/methods to combat and also
reduce the environmental and health impact of soil erosion in Sapele metropolis
·
Ho: There are no possible ways/methods
of reducing the environmental and health impact of soil erosion in Sapele
metropolis.
·
Ha: There are possible ways/methods of

Table 4.4 Above shows that the total respondents that
“Agreed” to the set of related question were 147, 210 “Strongly agreed” 143 “Disagreed”
100 “Strongly disagreed”. The calculated chi – square (x²) value is 12.27 while
table value of x² at 6df is 12.59. Therefore applying decision rule, since x²
calculated is lower than x² table value 0.05 = 12.59. The researcher accepted
the alternate hypothesis (Ha) and concluded that there are possible ways/methods
to combat and also reduce the environmental and health impact of soil erosion
in Sapele metropolis (see details in appendix V).
