between housing on health and social care is multi-faceted, poor housing

overall health impact on housing condition. Some of the impact of poor housing
on health and social care are:
i.
It leads to high prevalence of
disease attack
ii.
It leads to air and noise pollution
iii.
Poor housing exacerbates mental
stress
iv.
Poor housing leads to accident
v.
Poor housing lead to excessive heat
and cold.
vi.
Poor housing exacerbates indoor
pollutant
vii.
Poor housing leads to poor
educational attainment and deprivation
viii.
Poor housing leads to homelessness
and insecurity.
1.
High prevalence
of disease attack: Poor housing design triggers the
occurrence and spread of disease e.g. poor surface drainage in the house with
stagnant pools encourages the breeding of mosquitoes and other disease carrying
vectors, which attack and transmit disease to human in their course of feeding.
Overcrowding and ill-ventilated also serve as a route in the transmission of respiratory
or infectious diseases such as tuberculosis, asthma, influenza, etc. This
result in an increase in disease burden with the population, affects
productivity, thus perpetuating the cycle of poverty (Hopton & Hunt, 2008).

2.
Air and noise
pollution: When there are no adequate windows and doors in a
house, it interferes with the normal air exchanging in a dwelling resulting to
pollution. Also houses that are constructed and located near factories,
airport, roads or land prone to flooding are exposed to noise pollution and
this may result to deafness, conjunctivitis, lungs cancer, hearing lost, etc.
All these occur as a result of receiving and inhaling dangerous fumes released
from automobile and other chemical equipment used in such establishment (Tim,
2008).

3.
Poor housing
exacerbates mental illness: Since the comfort, shelter and
protection in a house are inadequate or absent, the occupier of such dwelling
are prone to criminal and anti-social incident, which result to mental illness,
intimidation, murder, rape and robbery.(Newton, 2007).

intimidation, murder, rape and robbery.(Newton, 2007).
4.
Accident: Most injuries
and poisoning in a house is as a result of poor condition of the home, such as
presence of dilapidated walls, cracks walls, crack floors, etc. Which result in
vehicular accidents, drowning, falls, accidental burning. These effects can
also occur as a result of lack of different compartment provision in a house
for different activities e.g. sitting rooms, sleeping rooms, cooking rook,
toilet and bathrooms (Park, 2007)

5.
Excessive heat
and cold: Poor housing design causes exposure to excessive heat
during the day and cold in the night. This is as a result of absence of ceiling
or sagging ceiling in the house as a result of stress, the occupier exercise
during the night, his social activities are been disrupted in attention to make
up for the loss sleep.

6.
Indoor
pollutant and infestation: The consequence of inadequate
heating, insulation and ventilation encourage mould, fungi and other
microorganism to grow. Many of this are allergic and provide a food supply for
house mites which are also potential allergens. Mites allergens can trigger
type II allergic reaction. The most important of which is asthma. These reduce
individual capability and interest to some social rules or activities.

7.
Poor educational
attainment and deprivation: The poor design and the material
used for constructing a house (school) often can render the environment
unconducive for learning especially during extreme weather condition. These
factors have serious health implication with attendant social and economic
consequences including school absenteeism. Most children in poor houses are
more likely to underachieve in school compared with those from organised and
improved areas (Tim, 2008).

8.
Homelessness
and insecurity: The use of undurable material in house has resulted
to many structural failures which expose the occupier to inclement weather and
lack of security the risk of violent attack are high in poor houses compared to
well built environment not only directly impact our health, but also factors in
less direct, complex ways into the health of individuals residing in single
family homes, housing projects, blocks, neighbourhood and entire cities and
communities. The negative aspect of built houses tends to interact with and
magnify health disparities, compounding already distressing conditions.
Homelessness causes depression when this occurs, the individual capability
towards performing his social activities are reduced to residential
environment, but can also be found in commercial environment as for as housing
is concerned.
