Background
Under the overall guidance and supervision of the Humanitarian Affairs Officer/Head of Office, the driver will provide support to United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) staff by ensuring safe, reliable and timely transport service. The driver promotes a client, quality and results-oriented approach, high sense of responsibility, courtesy tact and ability to work with people of different national and cultural backgrounds.

The Driver provides transport services to the OCHA staff, Consultants/ Experts and other UN staff on mission in PNG.
Duties and Responsibilities
Summary of Key Functions:
• Provision of reliable and safe driving
• Proper use of vehicle
• Day-to-day maintenance of the assigned vehicle
• Availability of documents/ supplies

Ensures provision of reliable, safe and secure driving services by a) driving office vehicles for the transport of authorized personnel and delivery and collection of mail, documents and other items and b) meeting official personnel and visitors at the airport, visa and customs formalities arrangement when required.
• Liaise and coordinate with local authorities to facilitate smooth running of vehicle movement in the designated area.
• Keep abreast of developments on local security situation including security information which might have impact on vehicle movements.
Ensures cost-savings through proper use of vehicle through accurate maintenance of daily vehicle logs, provision of inputs to preparation of the vehicle maintenance plans and reports
Ensures proper day-to-day maintenance of the assigned vehicle through timely minor repairs, arrangements for major repairs, timely changes of oil, check of tires, brakes, car washing, telecommunication equipment are in place and functioning properly etc.
Ensures availability of all the required documents/supplies including vehicle insurance, vehicle logs, office directory, map of the city/country, first aid kit, and necessary spare parts.

Ensures that all immediate actions required by UN rules and regulations are taken in case of involvement in accidents.

The key results have an impact on the execution of the OCHA administrative/logistical services that will support the OCHA day-to-day activities and other important services.

Required Skills and Experience

Education:
• Secondary education with a valid class 6 PNG Driver’s license.

Experience:
• 2 to 3 years of relevant safe driving record.
• Knowledge of driving rules and regulations and skills in minor vehicle repair, operation of HF/VHF radio equipment , 4×4 vehicle operation.
• Experience in the usage of computers and office software packages (MS Word, Excel, etc), will be an advantage.

Language:
• Fluency in written and spoken English.
• Fluency in Pidgin and Motu preferred.
