iLab Liberia Communications and Social Media Manager Job Vacancy in Liberia

iLab Liberia is a non-governmental organization dedicated to providing a collaborative and open learning environment as well as free trainings in information and communication technologies (ICTs). iLab’s mission is to assist IT professionals and enthusiasts, as well as organizations and institutions, in their efforts to more
readily share information using ICTs. Specifically, our staff offer trainings in open source tools and systems because they promote interactive communities and shared ownership. iLab hosts local meet-ups as well as local and international organizations holding events that are in-line with iLab’s mission.

Position Description
iLab Liberia has grown significantly since first opening its doors in May 2011. iLab holds between 6 and 10 events each month, forms new partnerships weekly, and hosts visiting scholars and external workshops on a regular basis. With all of this activity, iLab needs a dedicated communications and social media manager to represent iLab’s activity on the organization’s website, and on social media sites like Twitter, Google+, and Facebook. These responsibilities also extend to local media, such as exploring opportunities for iLab to be on Liberian radio, in the newspapers, and to participate in local events. While a communications manager at iLab would have other duties such as assisting with trainings and office tasks, his or her primary role will be to spread the word about iLab’s activities and partnerships using social media and local sources of information sharing.

Major Duties and responsibilities

Website content
• Add timely information about iLab events on the website calendar
• Post to the blog
• Add photographs of recent events
• Provide descriptions of past, current and upcoming events
• Profile iLab users on a regular basis for the blog
• Add resources and links that iLab users may find helpful
• Record video to post on the website

Social media representation
• Tweet daily about iLab events, users, and relevant information
• Add to iLab’s Google+ page, Facebook pages on a weekly basis
• Research the internet daily to find useful information related to iLab activities that can then be shared with iLab staff, tweeted, and posted on Google+ and Facebook

Training and capacity development
• Assist iLab’s senior trainers to develop the curriculum and materials in preparation for iLab trainings
• Assist and co-lead trainings at iLab when requested by senior trainers and/or the executive director
• Provide support during iLab’s open hours to users who have social media questions and other queries in the realm of the communication manager’s expertise
• Participate in free trainings for iLab staff provided by iLab senior management and visiting scholars

Other Duties
• Work alongside iLab staff to maintain the lab during working hours
• Become proficient in technical requirements to lead introductory courses in a range of topics at iLab, including social media as well as Free and Open Source Software (FOSS) and more
• Collaborate with executive director when creating content for website, social media sites, and local media
• Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications
• Completed or ongoing University degree in Communications or related degree is preferred; technical institute degree is also acceptable
• Commitment to iLab’s goals and objectives
• Fast learner able to pick up new skills and apply them quickly; learning on the go is a must
• Strong writing skills; the ability to communicate clearly both verbally and orally is critical
• Team player and also has leadership potential
• Comfortable and competent as a teacher
• Works well without constant supervision
• Highly self-motivated, proactive, innovative and eager to work
• Demonstrates proficiency with computers, social media, and information technology
• Commitment to abide by high moral standards and combat corruption proactively
