Prostate Cancer Charity is the UK’s leading charity working with people
affected by prostate cancer, which is the most common cancer in men. Its vision
is a world where lives are no longer limited by prostate cancer. The Charity
has grown significantly over the last few years and has an ambitious strategy
which aims to transform the future for people affected by prostate cancer,
following years of relative neglect and under investment in the disease.
The Charity is now seeking to appoint an exceptional Director of Research to
lead its research programme through a period of exceptional growth and to
assume in-house scientific/medical leadership for the organisation. Through its
partner Movember, the Prostate Cancer Charity is looking to treble its research
programme spend to c£7m in 2012 and introduce exciting new mechanisms for
supporting high quality research in prostate cancer. This newly created role,
acting as Chief Scientific Officer, offers a unique opportunity to play a vital
leadership role within the Prostate Cancer Charity’s research mission.
Reporting to the Chief Executive and a member of the Senior Management Team,
the Director of Research will also contribute to the overall development of the
Charity towards the 2020 goals which aim to transform the future for people
affected by prostate cancer.
The successful candidate will bring significant leadership and management
experience in a health research setting, including a personal research
background. You will also bring extensive experience with an organisation
focused on scientific and medical advancements including involvement in the
grant writing or assessment process and the personal credibility and gravitas
to represent the charity in international research forums.
