The role As a member of the Save the Children International (SCI) Humanitarian Leadership Team, the Deputy Humanitarian Director Quality and Capacity (DHD -QC) will take responsibility for ensuring that Save the Children has sufficient and appropriately balanced technical capacity to enable country offices and response teams to deliver consistent and high quality humanitarian, risk reduction and mitigation programmes.
The DHD will also ensure that all of our humanitarian programmes aspire to meet pre determined quality benchmarks, and will work with Country Directors and the Deputy Humanitarian Director-Operations to ensure all Save the Children Country Offices are provided with appropriately balanced operational and response capacity development . The DHD-QC will also lead the development of an SCI Humanitarian leadership programme, ensuring all SCI and Member staff have access to continuous professional development and a career path in the field of Humanitarianism.
Relevant skills and experience
• Significant emergency technical leadership and management experience from a large humanitarian agency
• Strong emergency management track record including senior technical programming experience in both complex and rapid onset emergencies in one or several core emergency programming sectors
• Post-graduate technical qualifications in one of Save the Children’s core sectors – post qualification experience in other sectors is desirable
• Proven track record in leading the design and delivery of emergency technical capacity building initiatives
• Experience in developing organisational frameworks, tools and standards for emergency sector programmes, assessment, M&E
• Sound knowledge of international humanitarian institutions and donors, and good professional network within peer agencies, Clusters etc
• Demonstrated ability to thrive in a matrix management environment.
• Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills including influencing, negotiation and coaching.
• Good project management skills related to organisational development projects and international, cross-functional teams with a proven history of delivering results.
• Experience of solving complex issues through analysis, definition of a clear way forward and ensuring buy in.

• Models humanitarian best practices, and the leadership behaviours outlined in Save the Children’s key humanitarian guidance document
• Ability and willingness to change work practices and hours in the event of major emergencies including travelling at short notice and for extended periods of time
