Felicia Ogbuja, the wife of a lecturer of the Benue State Polytechnic, Andrew Ogbuja has been arraigned by the Nigerian government for her role in the rape an 8 years old girl named Ochanya Elizabeth Ogbanje for a period of five years which eventually lead to her death at age 13.
Before her death in October, 2018, Ochanya Elizabeth Ogbanje lived with family of the Ogbuja. She was reported to have being repeatedly raped by Andrew Ogbuja and his son named Victor for a period of five years.
Felicia Ogbuja was arraigned at a Federal High Court in Benue State for her role in the events that preceded the death of the teenager. Felicia Ogbuja is been accused by the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) for aiding the rape of Miss Ochanya Elizabeth Ogbanje for a period of five years during her stay at their residence.
According to NAPTIP, Felicia Ogbuja allowed the persistent rape of Miss Ochanya Elizabeth Ogbanje to continue by remaining silent after the crime was brought to her notice. Felicia Ogbuja is currently being arraigned on a two-count charge for the alleged offence.
As a result of the years of sexual abuses by Andrew Ogbuja and his son named Victor, Miss Ochanya Ogbanje died of Vesico Virginal Fistula (VVF) infection.
Before her death, the Ochanya Elizabeth Ogbanje testified before the court that Felicia Ogbuja was aware of the sexual abuse, especially when the younger Ogbuja raped her.
Andrew Ogbuja and his son, Victor is currently facing trial. Andrew Ogbuja is currently being held by security operatives while his son, Victor, escaped arrest and is yet to be apprehended by police officers.
The late Ochanya Elizabeth Ogbanje was taken to the Ogbuja’s family in a bid to secure her qualitative education, but instead was raped for five years before her death at the age of 13.
According to Ochanya Elizabeth Ogbanje’s mother, the late victim was drugged many times by her abusers: a development which adversely affected her before her death.
