Background
The revised Democratic Governance for Development
(DGD) Project is a joint donor-funded project with the overall aim of:

- Strengthening the democratic character of
Nigerian political processes; - Promoting outcomes that consolidate and
advance democratic governance and accountability to achieve the country’s
stated development priorities and goals specified in the Federal Republic
of Nigeria and the United Nations Development Assistance Framework (UNDAF)
and the Country Programme Action Plan (CPAP).
DGD II consists of 4 programme components:
- Promoting Credible, Transparent and
Sustainable Electoral Processes; - Improving the Democratic Quality of Political
Engagement; - Enhancing Participation by Women, Youth and
other Marginalized groups; - Strengthening Channels of Civic Engagement.
In order to promote inclusivity and participation
of persons with disabilities in democratic governance processes, DGD II seeks
the services of Sign Language Interpreters to provide sign language
interpretation at DGD programmes and events involving persons with hearing
impairment.

Duties and Responsibilities
The objectives of the consultancy include:
- Facilitate the mobilisation and participation of
persons with hearing impairment at DGD programmes and events - Provide sign language interpretation services
at DGD meetings and events

- Assist DGD focal persons to invite persons
with hearing impairment - Be a liaison between persons with hearing
impairment and DGD

sign language interpretation and interpreting feedback from persons with
disabilities

Supervision:
The Project Director of DGD will provide strategic
guidance to the consultant in the discharge of the assignment while monitoring

Required Skills and Experience
Education:
- Minimum of National Certificate of Education
or Diploma or at least 4 years’ experience in sign language interpretation
Experience:
- At least 4 years relevant experience in sign
language interpretation - Previous experience with a multilateral or
international organization is helpful but not mandatory; - Excellent sign language interpretation skills
is required; - Ability to work harmoniously with people from
different cultural backgrounds.
Language Requirements:
- English is required.
