Mama Misitu is a communications campaign aiming to improve the governance of Tanzania’s forests and
reduce illegal forest harvesting, so that the people of Tanzania can increasingly benefit from sustainably managed forests. Through the campaign, the communities learn about various participatory forestry mechanisms for strengthening their rights to forests and their ability to benefit from the sustainable management of their forests.
As the Technical Advisor for Mama Misitu, you will report to the Mama Misitu Campaign Manager. It will be your responsibility to provide strategic direction and policy-related technical expertise to the Mama Misitu Campaign, linking with partner and external advisers where appropriate. An important responsibility will be to suggest innovations and provide advice on campaign design and implementation and to ensure useful monitoring outputs are generated and that lessons learned are integrated to strengthen the campaign.
To be successful in this interesting job, you need to have an excellent understanding of political economy in natural resources management. You have strong analytical and writing skills, and you have a proven aptitude for strategic and lateral thinking. Good knowledge of best practices in forest management would be advantageous as well as experience in mass-media communication and knowledge of Kiswahili. Your English should be excellent.
You have obtained a post-graduate degree in environmental sciences or social/political sciences and you have at least three years of experience in managing projects and budgets. Last but not least you are passionate about the needs for better governance of natural resources in Tanzania.
