East African Community Climate Change Adaptation Specialist Job Vacancy in Arusha, Tanzania

Job Title: CLIMATE CHANGE ADAPTATION SPECIALIST (1 POST)

Grade: Professional Staff P2 equivalent

Department: Environment and Natural Resources
Reports to: Principal Environment and Natural Resources Officer
Duration of Contract: One (1) year
Station: East African Community (EAC) Headquarters, Arusha, Tanzania

Main purpose of the job
To provide technical and advisory support to the implementation of regional climate change
adaptation activities in accordance with the EAC Climate Change Policy, Strategy and Master Plan.

Duties and responsibilities:
2.1 Oversee the implementation of strategic and prioritized climate change adaptation activities at
the regional level;
2.2 Support efforts to enhance the region’s climate adaptive capacity through vulnerability, impacts
and risks assessment, resilience building, adaptation policy planning and mainstreaming;
2.3 Support the process leading toward the establishment of a Climate Change Coordination Unit at
the EAC Secretariat;
2.4 Facilitate the development and dissemination of climate information and knowledge to various
stakeholders;
2.5 Provide technical support in the preparation and conducting of regional climate change
meetings; and
2.6 Undertake any other related task that may be assigned by management.

Qualifications and experience
Post-graduate university degree in: Environment and Climate Sciences, Natural Resources
Management or other related disciplines with working experience of 7 years of progressively
experience with a minimum of 5 years at a at senior management level.

Skills and Competencies:
Extensive knowledge in climate change adaptation, mainstreaming, vulnerability, impact and risk
assessments, community and ecosystem based adaptation practice; policy research and analysis at
the regional and international level; proposal development and resource mobilization. Familiarity
with regional integration and intergovernmental organizations.
Fluency in oral and written English, report writing, facilitation and negotiations skills; proficiency
in Microsoft Office and statistical software.

This is a non-established position supported by donor funds whose contract terms and conditions
are limited to the availability of funds.

The above position will be subjected to the EAC quota system.
