PROJECT ACCOUNTANT (to be based in the Country Office Dar es Salaam)
Description:

Summary of Position Responsibilities
The Accountant will assist the Senior Finance Manager and I Senior Accountant in accounting, financial and administrative functions for Heifer Tanzania. Duties will include assisting in the process of accounting transactions, financial reporting, budgeting, cash flow management, banking, grant management, and compliance with Heifer policies.

Primary Duties& Responsibilities
Record accounting transactions in the accounting software in a timely and accurate manner
Review expense reports and ensure they are in compliance with donor requirements and Heifer policies.
Prepare journal vouchers, payment vouchers, in a timely manner.
Assist in preparation of the budget and management of cash flow.
Ensure that grant and donor requirements are upheld, including assurance that all supporting documentation for expenses is maintained.
Seek continued growth in the knowledge of Heifer International programs and issues of hunger and poverty.
Perform other job-related responsibilities as assigned.

Requirements:

Qualifications and Experience
Bachelors Degree in Finance or Accounting or related field
Two or more years bookkeeping and general accounting experience.
Proficient use of Microsoft Excel
Other job-related education and/or experience may be substituted for all or part of these requirements.
Essential Job Functions and physical Demands;
Rich knowledge of accounting principles and practice
Knowledge of grant and donor reporting requirements
Ability to prepare, manages, and monitor budgets.
Proficient use of ”English language, both oral and written
Ability to create and present documents in a well-designed and attractive format with superior attention to detail
Ability to effectively communicate information to all levels of management and peers.
Ability to determine proper accounting treatment of transactions
Computer proficient in word processing, spreadsheets (MS Excel required), presentation tools, electronic mail software, and knowledge of accounting software.
Excellent organizational skills including strong attention to details
Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to work cooperatively, tactfully, and diplomatically with a culturally diverse group of people
Ability to maintain confidentiality
Motivated to work with little supervision
Demonstrate a high degree of integrity.
Ability and willingness to work with a flexible schedule
Ability and willingness to travel both locally and internationally
Sensitivity in working with multiple cultures, belief systems, and gender
Ability to drive a manual transmission car and possession of clean driving license will be an added advantage
