The Country Manager will be responsible for the
overall management of programs and partnerships in Tanzania. The position will
be based in Dar Es Salaam with frequent travel within Tanzania (40-50%). The
Country Manager will supervise field staff, interns and volunteers and support
the programmatic and institutional development of YCI’s local partners. In
addition the Country Manager will expand YCI programming, partnerships and
funding opportunities.

o Manage the implementation of program activities with a commitment to best
practice in youth-focused programming;
o Lead the development and implement annual program work-plans in collaboration
with local partners, staff, youth, and YCI volunteers;
o Design and implement capacity building programs for local partners with a
focus on institutional and program capacity building;
o Work with partners, YCI staff and volunteers to design and develop new
programming opportunities; o Manage partner relations in Tanzania through
continuous communication and support;
o Establish relations with new partners committed to youth programming;
o Oversee the implementation of YCI operational policies in YCI and partner
offices;
o Liaise with national and international agencies and donors to expand YCI
programming by responding to proposals and/or securing grants and sub-grants;
o Contribute to YCI proposals including assessment, program design, logical
frameworks and budgets;
ο Oversee the development and implementation of YCI and donor monitoring,
evaluation and reporting.

o Manage in-country staff in Tanzania including managers, officers, interns and
local volunteers operations and complete staff evaluations as per YCI policies
and timelines;
o Ensure accurate receipt tracking, implementation of YCI finance policies and
practices, and timely submission of finance reports to YCI head office in
Toronto;
o Manage development of all partner, donor and headquarters reporting and
submit prior to deadline; o Recruit, hire and train new staff as required;
o Oversee in-country security management and risk management;
o Facilitate field visits from YCI headquarters staff, donors and evaluators.

Background and Qualifications:
o Degree in international development or related field;
o 5 plus years’ international development field experience;
o 5 plus years’ experience leading livelihoods, health and/or governance
programs for youth preferred;
o 5 plus years’ experience in program, partner, volunteer and staff management;
o Previous experience working with partners and partner capacity building;
o Previous experience working with youth, youth volunteers and peer educators;
ο Previous experience successfully developing projects and writing proposals
for public donors, experience with CIDA preferred;
o Technical skills in youth focused programming in health, livelihoods and/or
good governance;
o Previous experience successfully managing multiple partners, staff,
volunteers, peer educators and program initiatives;
o Previous experience with financial management, donor reporting, budget
development and M&E;
o Flexible, strong inter-cultural skills, excellent written and verbal
communication skills;
ο Candidate must be able to work autonomously, have a proven ability to multi-task,
work under pressure, work effectively with limited infrastructure and support,
and appreciate freelance travel;
ο Excellent written and verbal communications skills in English.
