The Indigenous Education Foundation of Tanzania
(IEFT) is looking for an experienced candidate to create and maintain a
constant flow of communication between the staff and students of the Orkeeswa
Secondary School, international student sponsors, and our donor and funding
base around the world. This is an incredible opportunity for a self-starter
excited to create, implement and develop a communications structure within a
developing program.
IEFT is a non-profit, community-collaborative
organization that provides quality, affordable educational opportunities to an
underserved population of youth in rural Tanzania. IEFT operates the Orkeeswa
Secondary School, which is populated by motivated students and a welcoming and
dedicated team of international volunteers and local staff. Join our incredible

Job Description:
As a Communications Assistant, you will be expected
to:
  • Contribute to the organization and maintenance
    of our communications department.
  • Create systems to facilitate clear and
    consistent communication between all team members, our donor base and the
    general public.
  • Support for US administration’s fundraising
    efforts through collection and preparation of stories, images, videos,
    etc.
  • Maintain social media networks.
  • Serve as a primary contact between US office
    programs and TZ office programs.
  • Develop and maintain student profiles and
    other materials for student sponsors.
The Communication Assistant must have the ability
to build and maintain relationships with a diverse group of people, be
effective and flexible under pressure, and represent IEFT, its mission and
initiatives. It is a position in which you can use your creativity and develop
your skills while gaining experience in and exposure to the nuances of an
emerging grassroots program. It is very important that you are able to work
independently and take initiative and ownership, as well collaborate as a
strong team member.
In addition to the responsibilities of the
position, it is important that you have the willingness and ability to be
flexible and to cope with challenging living and working conditions in a
developing country. Applicants must be able to live and work with little or no
running water, unreliable electricity and a lack of Western amenities.
Important personal qualities: flexibility, autonomy, motivation, ability to work independently,
attention to detail, ability to take initiative.
Qualifications:
  • You must be at least 21 years old to apply and
    hold a Bachelor’s degree.
  • A minimum 1-year commitment is preferred,
    starting as soon as possible.
  • Photography and/or videography skills will be
    very helpful, as will editing capabilities.
  • Previous experience in a communications role
    preferred, but not necessary.

will gain a deeper insight into a different culture and experience things that
broaden your perspectives.
Many volunteers and staff choose to spend their
free time exploring some of East Africa’s treasures, including safaris on the
Serengeti Plain, climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro, hiking the Ngorongoro Crater, or
relaxing on the beaches of Zanzibar Island. Experience Tanzania’s diverse
indigenous cultures and traditions, distinct wildlife and breathtaking scenery!
Housing and utilities are provided for IEFT
volunteers.
