Job Description
The Program Support to private plantation forestry and value chains in Tanzania
– Panda miti kwa biashara aims at increasing rural income in the Southern
highlands area, thereby reducing poverty and inequality, through developing
sustainable plantation forestry, value addition including employment creation
in the entire production value chain from quality seeds to quality products in
markets. The Program will support sustainable land use planning, facilitate the
organising of tree growers into Tree Growers Associations (TGAs), and develop
the capacities of tree growers, SMEs and service providers (extension and
business services). The Program will accelerate tree growing, improve its
quality and strengthen the quality of wood processing. The experiences of the
Program’s innovative approaches will be processed into best practices to be
disseminated widely within the sector. The Program will also facilitate wider
development of the sector through facilitating dialogue between key
stakeholders.
The key beneficiaries of the Program are private tree growers and wood
processing SMEs in the Program area, especially members of already existing and
to be established Tree Growers’ Associations (TGAs). Inclusive and equal
participation in TGAs will be promoted, and the rights of vulnerable groups
will be strengthened through their proper involvement in the land use planning
processes, through supporting their employment in the value chain as well as
through promoting income generation in collaboration with relevant other
programs and NGOs. To ensure environmental sustainability, the Program will
integrate biodiversity conservation in land-use planning and improve
biodiversity management in plantation development.

Post location:Iringa region, Tanzania
Key qualifications:
BSc of BSc in Forestry or other field relevant to development of private
plantation forests. Experience and knowledge in planning, establishing and
managing forest plantations, preferably with tree farming or out-grower
elements
Experience in training and planning support and advisory services. Experience
and knowledge in GIS and applying spatial planning tools in land use and
forestry planning. Proven experience and knowledge in climate sustainability
and biodiversity issues. Proven experience and knowledge in operationalizing
the cross-cutting objectives such as gender, equality and climate issues
Main Functions:
Provide advice in plantation planning, establishment and management
Facilitate development of best practices in plantation & woodlot
establishment and management
Provide expertise to training in plantation establishment and management,
including best practices
Prepare land cover and biodiversity maps for guiding and informing the VLUP
process
Train VLUP teams in the use of spatial planning tools and GIS
