Impact is looking for a professional and enthusiastic individual for the
Program Manager role to oversee the Teaching/Community Project and the Marine
Conservation Project based in Jambiani, Zanzibar.
This position would
offer you the opportunity to work very closely with a dedicated project team,
passionate project partners and amazing volunteers from all over the world. You
will report into the regional business and development managers for all project
development, team management and financial budgeting and reporting for the
projects.
The ideal
candidate will have:
• A degree in
education/development or a related field.
• Some experience of
living and working in a developing country.
• A passion for
community development.
• Excellent
organisation, communication and i
nterpersonal skills.
• Knowledge of
Swahili will be considered an advantage.
• Previous
volunteering experience will also be considered an advantage.
The role entails:
Project
Management and Development
a) Develop an
understanding of relationships with project partners within the AI Zanzibar
education and conservation projects.
b) Managing the
overlap between both projects in Zanzibar for example: accommodation,
logistics, feedback and discipline.
c) Be accountable
for building and maintaining positive relations with community members, project
partners and government departments
d) Develop and agree
a plan for evolving existing volunteer projects towards sustainable aims and
outcomes.
e) Work with your
staff to set out the aims and achievements for your projects on a monthly and
quarterly basis.
f) Identify areas of
growth and discuss these with the regional managers.
g) Work with the
Regional Development Manager, Marketing Manager and your Destination Manager to
improve the marketing of your projects including social media and providing
content for awards.
h) Agree and
implement social media strategies with the Regional Development Manager.
Project
administration
a) Work with
regional business manager to forecast and manage all aspects of the finances,
tracking and reporting on expenses each month and providing an accurate
forecast for operational expenses of the Zanzibar projects.
b) Support and coach
your project staff to manage issues and overcome barriers they encounter with
projects and with the partners we work with.
c) Ensure your
assets (vehicles, accommodation etc.) are maintained and well looked after.
d) Manage all cash
and bank transactions to ensure we pay suppliers on time and receive any money
due to us.
e) Track the monthly
expenditure, investigating any overspend and making recommendations on how to
streamline and possibly reduce operational costs.
f) Produce monthly
and quarterly reports covering progress and issues, finances and operations.
Staff
Management
a) Oversee staffing
for the Zanzibar projects.
b) Managing staff
annual leave planning and coverage.
c) Recruitment of
new staff.
Volunteer
Experience
a) Lead your team
ensuring projects are organised, activities are both challenging and appealing
for volunteers and beneficial to the community.
b) Ensure the
projects make a long term, positive change and you are working with responsible
partners in all you do.
c) Get to know your
volunteers, identify how they can add more value during their stay and engage
them on supporting your projects and our charity once they have left.
d) Make the decision
on how to implement improvements based on volunteer feedback to drive
continuous improvement on your projects and business.
e) Identifying
exciting after project and weekend activities to enhance a volunteers time and
to generate further income for the project.
f) Manage any
disciplinary issue using our code of conduct in a timely and sensitive manner.
g) Take
responsibility for managing emergency situations and major volunteer issues.
