JOB TITLE: MACRO ECONOMIST (1 POSITION)
Reports to; Head, Macro Economics
Major Function:
This is a middle managerial position where the Officer will be responsible for providing a wide range of reports on macroeconomic developments in the economy.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities
The applicant will be responsible for:
1. Ensuring the collection of relevant macroeconomic Indicators, That is. for the Real, Fiscal, Monetary and External sectors
2. Ensuring maintenance of a statistical database to support macroeconomic analysis, and forecasting.
3. Periodically studying historical trends for the whole economy as well as analyzing the current macroeconomic developments (e.g in inflation, domestic demand, exchange rate, unemployment, public expenditure and other related parameters.)
4. Providing quantitative techniques to formulate economic models that help to explain economic relationships that can be used to forecast future trends.
5. Monitoring and reporting on periodic global trends and forecasts of major development issues and assess their potential impact on Uganda’s economy.
6. Regularly monitoring the performance of the private sector and how it responds to major Government decisions particularly those that are intended to improve the overall business operating environment.
7. Maintaining liaison with Ministry of Finance, Planning and Economic Development, Office of the Prime Minister, Uganda Bureau of Statistics, Bank of Uganda and the Economic Policy Research Centre on matters concerning the measurement and monitoring of major economic and socio indicators of the economy
Key Result Areas (KRAs)
1. Produce relevant macroeconomic indicators on Real, Fiscal. Monetary and External sectors.
2. Produce quarterly and half yearly reports on the global trends and forecasts of major development issues.
3. Analyze the economy and come up with strategies for improving the public service delivery.
Remuneration
Remuneration to all. the above positions will be attractive and commensurate with the responsibilities attached to them.
Job requirement
Person specifications /Qualifications
The applicant must have the following:
1. Holder of a honors Degree in Economics and Quantitative Economics; with specialization in Macro Economics from a recognized University plus a Masters Degree in Economics or a closely related discipline from a recognized university,
2. Good knowledge of economic modeling techniques and econometrics is essential.
3. Worked for 5 years as Macroeconomist or in a similar position and at least 3years of which must be at senior level in a reputable development related institution / organization:
