The centre is unique in Malawi as it is the first to be based on the UK SureStart model.
• There is day care for up to 250 children, with UK staffing and space ratios
• Staff will have completed a full year of training delivered by UK volunteers who are experienced early years trainers
• We aim for a comprehensive outreach and family support service, bringing preventative child protection to the community for the first time
• There are facilities for early years healthcare provision including baby weighing and vaccination clinics, giving parents and children the opportunity to also access other centre services such as the toy library and stay and play groups while they are keeping their family healthy
• The centre is situated on a newly developed “campus” of enterprise and learning: along with the primary school, an IT Training Academy and small social-enterprise units, parents will be able to train and work supported by access to subsidised childcare places and knowing their children are safe.
To support the day-to-day management of the centre and to join our existing team of experienced volunteers already living in Malawi we urgently seek:
2 x Practice Leaders
Start date: September 2012 or March 2013
Duration: 6 months minimum
Terms: Expenses paid- flights, medical vaccinations, insurance. Full board and private accommodation provided in our beautiful volunteers’ village, non-salaried voluntary.
We are looking for 2 joyful volunteers to oversee childcare rooms and act as inspirational role models for the Malawian team. You will be qualified to at least NVQ Level 3 or equivalent and you’ll have a minimum of five years post-qualifying experience working in a quality childcare setting. You will be an expert pedagogue with a real passion for helping children to feel secure and cared for, while having the stimulation and freedom to achieve their full potential. You’ll also have a passion for sharing your expertise as you will be supervising a newly trained team of Malawian carers and ensuring that maintain the highest possible standards of care.
Key Tasks and Responsibilities
• Responsible for leading the childcare team for your rooms
• Safeguarding children ensuring excellent education & childcare.
• Maintain a safe, secure and caring environment.
• Take a leading role in the development & monitoring of high quality learning & teaching.
• Providing ongoing training, assessment and support or your Malawian team
• Take an active role within the Senior Management Team.
