Chisomo Children’s
Club, a local NGO working with street connected children and other vulnerable
children and
families throughout Malawi in partnership with Retrak and a range of other
partners is
expanding its
programs to benefit vulnerable children and families and would like to fill
these exciting
new position;
Reporting to the
Centre Manager, the Social worker will provide appropriate advice, support and
resources to street
connected children and their families to help them overcome their problems. The
Social worker will
be employed in specialist role to provide support for street connected
children,
families,
communities and early intervention roles that aim to prevent the escalation of
numbers of street
children in towns
and cities of Malawi.
Responsibilities:
Undertake regular one-to-one counseling
sessions with children.·
Arranging appropriate care, resources or
benefits·
Ensure children are participating in group
discussion/counseling sessions and other activities to·
learn positive
behavior.
Assist children to develop a plan for the
future and enable and support them in practical as well·
as emotional/psycho-social
ways to implement their plan.
Contribute to the regular child care review
meetings to assess their progress through the program·
and to work together
as a team to help individual children/their behaviors/their life-plans.
Be the lead person to ensure families/carers
are supported and enabled in the family tracing,·
reintegration,
placement and follow-up processes.
With your previous experience, organize,
training sessions in appropriate listening, counselling·
and communication
skills for children and youths.
Participate in delivery of the life-skills
lessons programme.·
Keep good, accurate and confidential records
of all counselling sessions as well as accurate M·&E
records of all
activities.
Make appropriate professional referrals for
children who require psychological, psychiatric or·
legal
assessment/treatment.
Participate in street outreach programs and
undertake advocacy and awareness raising of issues·
around children.
Qualification
and Work Experience:
Bachelor of Social Sciences with a major in
social work.·
Three years relevant post graduate experience·
A clear understanding of issues affecting
vulnerable and street connected children·
Be able to work in a multi-cultural
environment.·
