Main Purpose & Function
The Sustainability Business Relationship Specialist is the primary contact for client departments in strategic sustainability matters and is responsible for supporting Directors and Managers throughout the City of Vancouver to achieve the City’s environmental sustainability goals and targets. The incumbent provides strategic advice, subject matter expertise, information about best practices, and a connection to external sustainability partners, resources and funding. The incumbent will help report out on sustainability related accomplishments and program offerings.
This position reports to the Sustainability Business Relationship Manager and is a key member of the Sustainability Group’s Business Relationship team.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities
The Sustainability Business Relationship Specialist, as a strategic partner with business units, provides advice and subject matter expertise to Directors and Managers so that they can deliver out on the City-wide environmental sustainability targets and goals owned by their Division.
The Specialist proactively works with internal clients to ensure that environmental sustainability targets are being met and proactively coordinates across divisions to ensure that opportunities for the efficient integration of sustainability into the City operations are realized.
The incumbent assesses opportunities to advance City’s sustainability goals to prioritize these for internal and external resource support. The Specialist is responsible for providing advice and subject matter expertise to support the achievement of environmental sustainability targets and ensure the effective evaluation of programs. The incumbent maintains and manages strong working relationships with client groups and across the organization.

Qualifications
A university degree in Business, Environmental Science, Planning, or a related field (Masters Degree is preferred) plus at least 5 years of experience in progressively senior sustainability related roles. An equivalent combination of education and experience will also be considered. A proven track record of applying Sustainability theory and framework into practice is required.
The successful candidate must have: Comprehensive experience in developing and executing environmental sustainability strategies; expertise in a wide range of environmental sustainability issues; strong verbal, written web communication skills; familiarity with social media; ability to establish and maintain positive relationships with internal clients and external partners and excel at client service.
