Position Description:
The Environmental Education Assistant will assist the EcoSpark environmental education team in implementing and developing Changing Currents 2011, a program that engages youth in a community-based research program through stream monitoring events. Particularly, the successful candidate will help facilitate youth environmental-monitoring events and develop resources to further engage youth in the monitoring of urban and rural stream health.

This is position is a summer position funded through the Canada Summer Jobs program.

Position Responsibilities/Tasks:
• Assisting in the facilitation of youth stream monitoring events (using bio-monitoring techniques)
• Organizing logistics for stream monitoring events
• Coordinating program registrations
• Mapping data collected from Spring events
• Assisting in the development of an online video resource which helps students to better identify aquatic bugs during monitoring events
• Assisting in the improvement of the Changing Currents Teacher and Student Field Manual

Essential Qualifications:
• Must be undertaking post-secondary study in Environmental Science, Biology, Ecology or education
• Must meet the Canada Summer Jobs eligibility criteria (see: http://www.servicecanada.gc.ca/eng/epb/yi/yep/programs/csj/2011/applicantguide/csj_applicantguide02.shtml#three_3 
• Able to work independently, juggle multiple tasks and manage time efficiently
• Ability to work cooperatively as part of a team
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Pleasant phone manner
• Experience working with youth
• Comfortable putting on hip waders and leading students in streams
• An interest in the environment and community engagement

Preferred Qualifications:
• OBBN certification
• Experience of working in an office environment
• Experience developing educational resources
• Drivers license

Employment Type: 35 hours per week for seven weeks
