Upper Canada Heritage Farm Intern – Alternative Farming Job Vacancy in Canada

Organization: Upper Canada Heritage Farm
Location: Ottawa area, Ontario

Upper Canada Heritage Farm is looking for a live-in person to assist in its 300 hog operation. Located on 100 acres about one hour southwest of Ottawa, our family raises a heritage breed, the Large Black Pig, on rotating pastures. We have succeeded in helping to bring this remarkable breed back from the brink of extinction by developing a thriving market for their meat in the Nation’s Capital.

If you are an aspiring farmer looking for an alternative lifestyle, with an open mind and no fear of hard work, please contact me!

We need one special individual to live on the farm year round, either in the house or in a 26′ trailer on the property. You would be expected to spend on average about 6 hours each day tending the herd. Duties include feeding, watering, bedding, tractor maintenance, electric fencing and barn repairs and maintenance.

Opportunities are available for you to create your own market garden, chicken flock, or other agricultural endeavour using our equipment and land.

All living expenses (except food) are covered. You will receive a weekly cash stipend (amount to be discussed) and will have regular access to a car.

Experience is not necessary. We are looking for a person with enthusiasm, honesty, flexibility, a good work ethic and a positive outlook who wants to learn about alternative farming. Ideally, we are looking for a committed person who will be with us for the long term.

The position is available immediately. (Respectfully, no children or pets please.)
