Nursery Assistant:
Acorus Restoration is the name of our native plant nursery and ecological consulting firm, located on our 95-acre farm in Walsingham, Ontario, in the heart of Carolinian Canada. We grow native plants for a variety of natural area enhancement projects, wholesale for contractors and landscapers and are growing a retail operation for private landowners. We consult with groups in the public and private sectors on the positive impact of ecological restoration and naturalization.
We are looking for one self-motivated, physically fit and hard working person to help us in and around the nursery, where you will be seeding, transplanting, weeding, watering, seed collecting, seed cleaning, maintaining the greenhouses, ponds and shade house. As well we are doing retail this year and there would be retail work. There will also be occasional off farm restoration and landscaping projects throughout Ontario. We are looking for someone who is interested in a long-term seasonal position (March — December).
Required Skills:
• Physically fit, Hard working & Positive attitude
• Field hardy (able to endure difficult conditions: rain, insects, heat, cold, snow…)
• Neat, tidy and organized
• Good communication skills
• Positive Attitude
• Ability to work independently and in a group
• Responsible & Sensible
• Driver’s License
• Landscaping and horticultural skills are an asset
• Retail experience is an asset
• Native plant knowledge is an asset
• Knowledge of carpentry, plumbing, electrical, and machine maintenance is an asset
