Manager, Inorganic Chemical Analysis Section
Be a source of inspiration using your leadership skills and scientific knowledge of inorganic chemical analysis to support the Ministry of the Environment’s monitoring, compliance, audit and emergency response needs related to the province’s commitment to protect Ontario’s air, land and water.

As a manager in a highly technical area, you will:
• manage complex scientific projects and research studies
• direct the activities of project teams
• manage a group of highly skilled scientific and technical staff
• provide advice and guidance to customers and stakeholders in interpreting laboratory results
• participate in branch-wide strategic planning and management
• contribute to briefing materials, issue papers, information updates and presentations
• communicate technical information to non-technical audiences
• ensure the safe operation of the laboratory

Location: 125 Resources Road, Etobicoke, Ontario

What we are looking for:

Knowledge of Inorganic Contaminants:
• you have knowledge and experience using chemical analysis, method development, research and quality management related to inorganic contaminants (e.g. halogenated oxygenators, anions, nutrients)
• you know and can apply the theories, principles and practices of inorganic contaminants
• you can use highly complex methodologies and instruments to identify, develop and implement progressive analytical processes to analyze samples

Management Skills:
• you have leadership experience managing and mentoring staff
• you can manage assigned resources effectively (e.g. administrative, human resources and financial)
• you have experience managing and leading projects
• you work well with all levels of staff
• you present information in a way that is easy to understand
• you can draft a variety of written materials

Legislative and Technical Knowledge:
• you know environmental, health and safety and chemical management legislation
(e.g. EPA, SDWA, OWRA, Pesticides Act) and associated regulations
• you know about current scientific advances and innovations
• you can ensure that leading edge practices are investigated and implemented
• you have experience conducting environmental analysis and quality control using statistics theories and practices

Salary range: $80,592.00 – $105,075.00 per annum
