Responsibilities/Duties:
The Registered Nurse provides pediatric palliative care to children with progressive life-threatening conditions and their families. Pediatric palliative care delivered to children with progressive life-threatening conditions is the active total care of the child’s body, mind and spirit and includes support to the family. The RN will provide assessment, ongoing care, education, and coordination of services provided for children, youth and families admitted to Alberta Children’s Hospital/Rotary Flames House for respite, transition care, symptom management and/or end-of-life care. Nursing care provided to children and youth with life-threatening conditions includes evaluation and alleviation of physical, psychological, social and spiritual distress. The Registered Nurse participates in a multidisciplinary team and works independently. The RN practices in a manner that supports family centered care. The Registered Nurse acts as a resource to other healthcare professions and the community regarding children and youth with progressive life-threatening conditions.
Qualifications:
# Registration with the College and Association of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CARNA).
# Current CPR certification.
# Minimum 3 years nursing experience, experience in pediatrics and/or palliative care preferred.
# Expertise and competence in nursing practice, interviewing, counseling, teaching and group dynamics.
# Experience with telephone assessment and consultation preferred.
# Basic computer skills (Microsoft office, email) required, proficiency with Sunrise Clinical Manager (SCM) preferred.
# Demonstrated excellence in written and verbal communication skills.
# Demonstrated excellence in interpersonal skills.
# Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively with patients, families and multidisciplinary team members.
# Demonstrated initiative, accountability, time management skills, problem solving ability and organizational skills.
