organization is inviting applications for the full-time position of Education
Director.
As the Education Director, you will report directly to the Executive Director,
Manitoba Forestry Association, and work closely with the MFA Education
Committee. The successful candidate will be responsible for the planning,
development, implementation and evaluation of the organizations’ educational
programs as well as to ensure that the MFA Strategic Plan is progressing in a
consistent and compatible fashion with the provincial education curriculum.
The Education Director will be expected to undertake the following
responsibilities:
RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Ensure the content, messaging and delivery mechanisms for all of the MFA’s
educational programs are current, curriculum compliant and contribute to the
organization’s mission.
2. Co-chair the MFA’s Education Committee; which includes organizing, attending
and taking minutes at committee meetings, as well as, ensuring committee
recommendations are incorporated into educational program development.
3. Update the MFA’s Educational Strategic Plan on an annual basis, including
the identification of annual program priorities and associated budgets for all
educational activities.
4. Actively participate in all funding applications related to educational
initiatives, including researching funding sources, writing funding proposals,
and preparing reports to funders.
5. Oversee the operation of the Sandilands Forest Discovery Centre, including
the training and supervision of seasonal staff and contractors.
6. Ensure educational programs operate within annual allocated budgets.
7. Develop and implement marketing strategies for all educational programs.
8. Maintain and update all program related sections of the MFA website, as well
as, develop and distribute a bi-monthly MFA newsletter.
9. Maintain a broad awareness of current philosophy and practices in the forest
conservation and education sector.
10. Contribute as a team member to the development of other projects and
activities of the Manitoba Forestry Association, including reporting to the MFA
Board of Directors, participating in staff meetings, and contributing to new
and ongoing projects of the organization.
QUALIFICATIONS
• Post-secondary degree or college diploma or equivalent work experience that
demonstrates knowledge and competencies to excel in this position.
• Experience in the educational/communication/related resource management field
and/or not-for-profit environmental community will be considered assets.
• At least three years of related forest education experience or equivalent.
• Superior communication skills to effectively work with staff, directors and
volunteers;
• Demonstrated skills in event planning and program development;
• Demonstrated fundraising and grant writing skills;
• Proficiency with computer software including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and
Access, email, and the internet;
• Knowledge of Quickbooks accounting software will be considered an asset;
• Self-motivated with demonstrated ability to take initiative;
• Detail oriented and organized to effectively set priorities, develop work
plans, and monitor progress towards goals.
• Demonstrated ability to effectively manage time and work independently as well
as part of a team.
• Must have a valid Manitoba driver’s license.
Note: This position requires the ability to travel and occasionally work
weekends and evenings.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
This position is located at 900 Corydon in Winnipeg, Manitoba.
• Salary – $40,294.34 — 45,287.70 (Salary will be based on
qualifications/experience of candidate.)
• Hours of work: 40 hours/week, mainly daytime hours.
• Note: This position requires the ability to travel and work weekends and
evenings.
