Falls Brook Centre is a sustainable community demonstration and training centre
located on 400 acres of farm & forest in the heart of rural New Brunswick.
Our education program works with a wide range of participants from children to
young professionals to community leaders interested in examining the state of
our planet, human communities across the globe and how we as individuals fit
into a sustainable future. Our educational program promotes critical thinking
and explores themes in citizenship, biodiversity, sustainable action, and global
awareness.
Main Responsibilities
• Implement and report on multiple, concurrent Education and Outreach projects
and activities
• Fundraise and write proposals for new projects throughout the year
• Manage the Education Team through mentorship and collaboration with project
staff and interns
• Liaise with other program staff and director regularly to ensure projects run
smoothly and are complementary
• Liaise with local community organizations and assist with joint education
initiatives
Represent Falls Brook Centre in Public and Classrooms
• Develop and deliver curriculum-linked, experiential classroom workshops on
themes relevant to FBC’s mission
• Maintain strong communication with local teachers and administrators
• Collaborate with local and regional education networks to promote
sustainability education in the province
• Act as FBC’s “public face”: welcome visiting groups, deliver site
tours, and represent FBC at public events on and off-site
• Contribute to local newspaper column and FBC’s quarterly newsletter
• Maintain up-to-date webpage content
Mentorship
• Oversee and mentor international interns, primarily in local work projects.
Includes developing work plans, providing guidance and evaluating performance
The Ideal Candidate is:
• Outgoing, people-oriented and open-minded;
• Self-motivated, creative, well organized, and solution-oriented;
• Comfortable with public speaking (in a variety of contexts);
• Proficient in French and/or Spanish
• Experienced in delivering educational programs for children and/or youth;
• An excellent communicator in both oral and written English;
• Willing to work on evenings and week-ends as needed for program delivery;
• Comfortable with a rustic living situation, including wood heat, spring
water, whole foods, and a remote rural workplace.
• Comfortable with computer software including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel,
Publisher, Outlook) and online resources such as Google Groups and WordPress)
Basic Qualifications / Certification Required:
• Class 5 driver’s license and access to a vehicle (mileage is reimbursed for
work-related travel);
• Be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident;
• Possess a university degree or equivalent experience in a field related to
environment, education or international studies/development;
• Hold basic, up-to-date First Aid training
Salary
This is full-time position to start at the beginning of March 2012.
Salary: $32,000 based on 51 weeks/year
