writing skills to support the conservation of Canada’s magnificent
parks and wildlife?
The Canadian Parks and Wilderness Society (CPAWS) is looking for a
highly motivated, creative, well organized and resourceful university
student to join our National Offi
ce team in Ottawa for an eight week
internship this summer.
Who is CPAWS?
Celebrating our 50th anniversary in 2013, the Canadian Parks and
Wilderness Society (CPAWS) is a national charitable organization with
13 chapters across Canada, over 50 staff and hundreds of volunteers
who have helped to protect over half a million square kilometres of
Canada’s public land and water.

Location: CPAWS National Office, Ottawa, Ontario
Term length: 8 weeks@ 4 days (30 hours) per week, starting Wednesday, July 2
Salary: $14.50 per hour
Internship Responsibilities:
Reporting to the National Director of CPAWS Parks Program, the Parks
and Protected Areas Summer Intern will provide research and writing
support to the parks program conservation staff at CPAWS National
Office.
The Intern’s primary task will be to research and draft inspiring
public outreach materials about the wonders and benefits of Canada’s
national, provincial and territorial parks to support CPAWS’ I Love
Parks campaign and other national and regional parks campaigns. The
Intern will also provide research, writing and other support to help
CPAWS develop a vision and roadmap for how Canada can achieve its
international and domestic protected areas commitments, as well as
other similar tasks as required.
Eligibility:
Must have been a full time student during the previous academic year,
intend to return to school full-time for the next academic year, and
be between the ages of 15 and 30 at the start of employment.
Qualifications:
• University student in environmental studies/science, conservation
biology or related field
• Experience reviewing and synthesizing conservation science and
policy documents
• Excellent written communication skills in English
• Ability to communicate in both official languages a strong asset but
not required
• Details-oriented, results focused
• A passion for Canada’s parks, wildlife and wilderness conservation
