We are looking for someone to help grow with us and our organic
greenhouses. We have a modern greenhouse and produce 1 acre of
certified organic greenhouse crops throughout the year near
Kensington, PE. While much of our tomato and cucumber crops goes to
wholesale markets we want to diversify into local direct marketing so
we feel we need to expand the crops we grow. We have been
experimenting with about a dozen other crops that seem to do well in
the greenhouse but feel we ca
n continue to work on perfecting our
quality and ability to manage these crops. Part of this
diversification could include growing crops outside of the greenhouses
in the limited space we have available.
This is a family business. I (Marc) am a third generation farmer that
converted to organic in 2006 and I take care of the day to day
management. Krista and I met at the Ag College in Truro and she takes
care of the administrative and office work. Our three childern
Benjamin (12), Quinton (12) and Samantha (9) are all involved in
chores and the day to day happenings. We also employ 3 migrant
workers that take care of the greenhouse crop management from planting
to harvest so some Spanish or a willing to learn would be a great
asset as well.
With these possibilities we feel that we have a variety of challenging
and learning responsibilities for someone who has some base knowledge
and wants to build on themselves. This position can be self-directed
and / or possibilities for share cropping. Stipend can be discussed
depending on situation and on farm accommodation also possible. Lots
of fresh veggies included!
