Free The Children seeks an Associate Director of Communications and
Relationship Management, Executive Office who will oversee the day to
day management of the Executive Office’s communications and
relationship management needs; working closely with the department’s
management team and reporting to the Director, Executive Projects.
This individual will also support the Co-Founders of Free The Children
and Executive leadership team in leading various initiatives and
projects that require the Executive Office’s attention.

The Executive Office supports Free The Children’s executives in a
variety of facets including project management, research,
correspondence and stakeholder relations and business development.

A minimum three-year commitment is required, with salary commensurate
of experience. There is a three month probation period and upon
completion of a three month period, all staff members are offered a
health plan (including dental) and Employee Assistant Program. The
position is based out of Free The Children’s International office in
Toronto (233 Carlton Street).

The position will begin as soon as possible, at a date to be
determined with the applicant. If invited for an interview, candidates
will interview twice (on average): once with Human Resources and the
Director of Executive Projects; secondly with our Executive Director
and if available, the Co-founder of Free The Children. At times, this
may amount to three separate interviews.

Roles and Responsibilities:

The Associate Director, Executive Office Communications and
Relationship Management will report to, and consult with, the Director
of Executive Projects. Core accountabilities include (but are not
limited to):

Communications:
• Help to build and support the external and internal communications
of the executive leadership team as ambassadors of the organization’s
brand
• Responsibilities include providing leadership, setting priorities
and developing processes around executive communication with a strong
focus on correspondence needs and stakeholder engagement
• Collaborate with the organization’s Public Relations, We Day event,
and development teams to deliver results and ensure alignment of
messages and outreach efforts across departments
• Review production of final deliverables to ensure consistency,
creativity and quality

Relationship Management:
• Work with the Correspondence and Communications teams to hone and
monitor an ongoing relationship management strategy for the
department’s top stakeholder contacts, organized around direct updates
from and interactions with the organization’s Co-Founders
• Lead the team in effectively engaging stakeholders in opportunities
and events that arise, including developing guest lists, invitation
process and communication plans and liaising with related departments
as needed
• Represent the Executive Office in larger project or campaign
meetings that involve multiple departments specifically focused on
stakeholder engagement and communication, and lead Executive Office
accountabilities through the department

Business Development
• Play a key role in Free The Children’s development efforts, by
supporting the senior executives and collaborating with the Corporate
Engagement team on ongoing partnership and engagement opportunities
• Liaise with Free The Children’s Development and Regional Office
teams to ensure alignment in terms of working with potential
stakeholders, including meeting and material preparation and ongoing
engagement of key prospects
• Be able to speak to the primary prospects being engaged by the
executives and where applicable, other internal team members working
on their files

Human Resources and Team Management:
• Responsible for overseeing a large team, including driving
priorities related to the above activities, performing regular check
ins and ensuring that deadlines and priorities are met within the
department
• Help to ensure Executive Office staff is on-boarded into the
organization with ease and prepared for success
• Help to develop training plans to welcome new staff into the
Executive Office, and ensure staff are provided with opportunities for
professional development and relevant training sessions
• Help to facilitate a culture of open and honest communication within the team

Skills and Qualifications:
• Three to five years+ of relevant professional experience such
related to executive communication and stakeholder engagement
• Strong project management skills
• Strong interpersonal, communications and relationship management skills
• Attention to detail, and high-level of accountability for the
quality and timely completion of projects
• Flexible personality and work style that can adjust to different
executive styles and expectations
• Able and willing to travel and work outside regular business hours
• Corporate development, fundraising and social media experience
highly desirable
• Prior experience working in the non-profit sector or similar
workplace an asset
• Ability to work with senior level management to carry-out vision and
objectives
• Experience managing a team and measuring success
• Ability to work well under pressure and to meet deadlines
• Ability to time-manage and multi-task in a demanding and fast-paced
work environment
• Positive and professional attitude, ability to work as a team player
• Experience working with Microsoft Office Suites (e.g., Word, Excel,
PowerPoint, Outlook,
Publisher)
• Possess a Bachelor’s degree, diploma or certificate
