The Trans Canada Trail / Sentier Transcanadien is the world’s longest
and grandest recreational trail. It is used by millions of Canadians
and international visitors to experience our country’s legendary
wilderness, cycle historic rail trails, explore provincial and
territorial capitals, canoe the routes of early explorers, visit
national and provincial parks and historic sites, commute to and from
work and enjoy the benefits of safe, healthy, active living. By
Canada’s 150th Anniversary of Confederation in 2017, the Trail will be
fully connected, stretching nearly 24,000 kilometres from coast to
coast to coast, linking millions of Canadians and celebrating our
natural and cultural heritage. Today 75% of the Trail is developed.


The Trans Canada Trail (TCT) is responsible for facilitating the
planning and development of the Trail, working closely with
provincial/territorial partners and trail groups; raising funds for
local and national trail initiatives; and marketing and promotion of
the Trail. TCT has established a charitable foundation, governed by an
independent Board of Directors, to oversee the fund development
program.

Coordinator, Trail Development Kootenay Region, British Columbia
One-year contract, 3 days per week

The Trans Canada Trail (TCT) is currently seeking a Coordinator
responsible for Trail Development in the Kootenay Region between
Castlegar and the Alberta border. This position is a three-day per
week, one year term, and candidates must be located in this region or
willing to relocate at their own expense. The successful candidate
will work from a home office.

Reporting directly to the Trail Development Manager, Western and
Northern Canada, you will be accountable for the coordination and
development of the TCT in the Kootenay Region. You will assist in the
identification and organization of trail groups, and provide advice
and assistance to trail groups and local governments on trail routes
and construction projects funded by the TCT. You will provide TCT with
information on issues affecting the development and use of trails in
the Region, monitor the progress of trail projects, ensure funds
provided by the donor are used in accordance with the gift agreement
and ensure recognition and way-finding signage which corresponds with
TCT’s Signage Strategy is in place.

As an outgoing and energetic self-starter, you have experience
building community capacity and initiating relationships with a
variety of groups and individuals. You have critical analytical,
project planning and management skills and can demonstrate hands-on
experience in those areas. You are a strong negotiator, a confident
and team player and a highly effective organizer.
