Description: The Principal duties of the
Program Coordinator will be to manage and oversee the implementation of an
internship and scholarship program for emerging Indigenous reporters, as well
as oversee and coordinate a Province-wide workshop series.
Scholarship/Internship
Program Responsibilities:
- Marketing
scholarship and internship opportunities to relevant audiences - Coordinating
and overseeing the selection process for scholarship and internship
applicants - Working
closely with media partners, and college or university partners to oversee
participants throughout the duration of the scholarship and internship
program - Managing
participants travel logistics (when required) - Completing
thorough evaluations with program participants before, during and after
their participation in the program - Filing
monthly reports, and tracking deliverables - Working
closely with JHR head office to formulate donor reports and updates - Overseeing
program budgets and completing required monthly financial reports - Managing

Workshop
Series:
- Coordinating
an Ontario-wide workshop series, focused on training non-Indigenous reporters
in how to effectively cover the Indigenous community - Developing
workshop curriculum, and adapting existing curriculum for newsroom
workshops - Developing
relationships with media outlets around the province who will host
workshops - Working
with a series of workshop co-facilitators, to facilitate each workshop - Completing
participant evaluations with partner media outlets and individual
participants - Completing
monitoring and evaluation following each workshop, tracking stories delivered
as a result of training - This
position will require extensive travel in Ontario
Required
Qualifications:
– Experience working
with and/or living in an Indigenous community
– A thorough
understanding of Canadian Indigenous affairs, Canadian history and human rights
– Experience in a
mentoring/training/teaching role
– Experience in a
management role
– Experience working
with youth
– Experience
managing project budgets
– Experience
managing and maintaining relationships with Canadian media outlets
– Experience
facilitating workshops and coordinating events
– Must have class G
drivers license
