POSITION SUMMARY:

The First Nations Fisheries Council is seeking a passionate and
personable individual who is motivated and self-directing to join our
team as a Water Project Manager. Access to safe and healthy freshwater
habitat is critical to the continued survival of salmon and other fish

lthy fish habitats. Reporting to the FNFC
Strategic Development Manager, the Water Project Manager will work to
implement the Water for Fish initiative. Examples of Water for Fish
activities:
• Facilitating First Nations engagement in various water governance
and management processes, including developing an informal First
Nations water network, coordinating technical committees, and
organizing teleconferences, meetings and workshops on various topics.
• Analysis of water-related legislation, programs and policies and the
potential impacts on First Nations’ Title and Rights or Treaty Rights
and the potential impacts on fisheries and aquatic resources
• Strategic planning, project planning and management, and proposal
development.
• Conducting outreach and communication to increase awareness of the
both the FNFC and its projects and program areas and of various
federal, provincial, and regional water initiatives.

among First Nations organizations, and work together to build a united
voice on fisheries matters. The Water for Fish is a strategic
initiative to support BC First Nations in their engagement in water
governance and freshwater habitat management activities.

JOB DESCRIPTION:
• Plan, manage and monitor the implementation of the FNFC Water for
Fish initiative: project planning, budgeting, implementation,
sub-contractor management, evaluation, and reporting.
• Liaise with local, regional and provincial First Nations
Organizations, governments, environmental NGOs and/or others as
required to support and advance First Nations’ water rights and
priorities, to develop, plan and implement project activities, and to
analyze water governance policies.
• Develop communication and outreach strategies to engage First
Nations in water governance and management. This includes developing
and facilitating a First Nations Water Network as a discussion forum
for knowledge and information engage on various water-related topics,
issues and processes.
• Oversee and coordinate committee meetings, forums, workshops,
conference calls and other events, planning the agendas and chairing
or facilitating meetings as required.
• Identify and develop tools and resource materials to support First
Nations engagement in water governance and management processes.
• Draft and edit a variety of written materials: project reports,
proposals, correspondence, technical and policy briefing notes,
discussion papers, and communications materials (newsletter articles,
etc.).
• Regular communication with Strategic Development Manager on the
status and progress of activities.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND COMPETENCIES:
• Bachelor Degree in biology, natural resource management, political
science, geography, or a related field of study, with a minimum of 3 –
5 years of direct work experience.
• Substantive knowledge in areas of water governance and policy,
fisheries management, and natural resources management are a strong
asset.
• Demonstrated project management experience through the entire
implementation cycle.
• Experience working with BC First Nations communities and/or First
Nations organizations is an asset.
• Demonstrated ability to multi-task, set priorities effectively and
problem solve, including early identification of issues/problems that
may arise.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills are essential,
including interpersonal and collaboration skills with ability to
interact professionally with a range of individuals and organizations.
• Self-motivated with the ability to work with minimal supervision.
• Highly organized with strong attention to detail and commitment to
high quality work.
• Advanced knowledge of MS Office – Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Excel.

JOB LOCATION:

The FNFC office is located at 100 Park Royal South in West Vancouver,
BC. Office hours are Monday to Friday from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm. Some
travel and extended work hours will be required.
