eMERGE Guelph is seeking an enthusiatic leader to advance the practice
of individual, street and neighbourhood-level home audit
consulatations.

The Home Efficiency Advisor will work closely with the eMERGE Pathways
Director and the Program Coordinator to conduct in-home environmental
audits. This position entails visiting residents in their homes and
engaging them in actions and measures that focus on the five areas of
energy, water, waste, transportation and sustainable food choices as
well as provide general support to ensure the success of the program.


This position will offer a unique opportunity to inspire, develop and
apply state of the art mechanisms to help realize the necessary steps
to reduce Guelph’s community environmental impact.
• Part-time, 30 hours per week for 12 months with possibility of
extension pending additional funding.
• Contract $18 per hour (including HST)
• Interviews will take place on Friday, September 26th
• Start date: Monday, October 6th

Responsibilities:
• Performs household technical conservation audits and light retrofits
directly in participants’ homes and explores energy, water,
alternative transportation, sustainable food choices and waste best
practices to residents; recommends pathways for action and helps
motivate long-term engagement.
• Shares knowledge of conservation measures on household efficiency
(e.g., electrical systems, water systems etc. and interrelationships).
• Assist residents in understanding new technologies and the long term
billing impacts on their energy demand and consumption.
• Gathers information from residents to determine current
behaviours/barriers and calculates potential impact/savings related to
participation.
• Assists public and partners with general inquiries in person, by
email and by phone.
• Works with Director of Volunteer Engagment and Program Coordinator
to match Home Visit “Support Crew” volunteers with proper training and
support.
• Supports orientation, training, support and supervision of
volunteers as required.
• Provides event-planning and support for events held.
• Communicates Home Visit program improvements.
• Records during home visit which aspects of program need changes and
supports Program Coordinator to finalize solutions.
• Communicate training needs to Program Coordinator who will be
responsible for finding appropriate training avenues.

Qualifications:
• Degree or diploma in Environmental Sciences, Resource Engineering,
Sustainable Design or related discipine and at least two years
experience working in the field.
• Demonstrated knowledge of home conservation/building/renovation and
ability to calculate and quantify cost and conservation impacts for
such measures. Knowledge on household efficiency is considered an
asset (e.g., electrical systems, water systems etc. and
interrelationships).
• Good understanding of home maintenance, small tools and community
social marketing techniques.
• Excited to engage and meet new people from all over Guelph.
• Intermediate experience with MS Office, Outlook, Excel and Powerpoint.
• Self starter, team player, strong service skills, trustworthy,
detail oriented and strong organizational skills.
• Willing to work flexible hours with possibility of some weekends and
evenings.
• Regular access to a vehicle and/or valid driver’s license.
