Community Health Services (PCHS) Calgary was recently established as a
standa
lone not for profit society modeled on the very successful Punjabi
Community Health Services operating in Ontario. PCHS- Ontario is a not for
profit charitable organization and is a pioneer in the cross-cultural
understanding of providing health and social services in our diverse Canadian
population. PCHS Ontario’s Integrated Holistic Service Delivery Model
incorporates a foundational understanding of the differences between South
Asian and Western cultures, differences which impact the effective delivery of
social and health care services. This delivery model recognizes South Asian
cultural norms of defining illness, acknowledging social problems and seeking
resolution, and leverages these to deliver services in a culturally appropriate
manner for optimal effectiveness.
About Position:
With the support
of a Calgary Foundation Grant, this position will be responsible for setting up
and coordinating the new Volunteer Program for PCHS Calgary as well as building
community engagement about PCHS Calgary and the social and health issues of
concern identified by South Asian communities. This will include: 1) developing
volunteer recruitment and management policies and procedures; 2) recruiting,
training volunteers/mentors to deliver outreach and awareness and supportive
interventions; 3) Collaborating with mainstream agencies to develop client
referral processes; 4) developing comprehensive service delivery protocols for
volunteers; 5) implementing the “Community Helpers Program”; and 6)
developing stringent evaluation protocols to measure initiative outcomes.
Volunteers will
have opportunities to assist with a variety of services across the agency as
well as communications, fundraising and special events activities. The Program
Coordinator is responsible for supervising all agency volunteers with the
exception of Board members and Board Committee members.

changing demands within the program, organization and communities - Ability to work under pressure and
with deadlines. - Problem solving and decision making
skills - Supervision
- Consensus and team building
- Working independently and as part of
a team, including multi-disciplinary teams - Satisfactory Child Welfare and Police
check reports
Experience
and Training
- University degree or College diploma
in a social service or health related field is required. BSW preferred - Three to five years of experience
preferably in the human/social service, and/or not-for-profit sector with
some supervisory experience an asset - Languages preferred – Punjabi, Hindi,
Urdu, Tamil in addition to English - Proficient in Microsoft Office and
