JUMP Math is a
Canadian, charitable organization dedicated to helping students succeed at, and
enjoy, learning math. JUMP (Junior Undiscovered Math Prodigies) is an
innovative math program created by playwright, mathematician, and author Dr.
John Mighton, O.C. He founded the program in 1998 as a kitchen table tutoring
group
before focusing on students and teachers in classrooms and he is
currently working with JUMP Math, as its Chief Creative Officer.
The evidence-based
classroom programs produced by JUMP Math help students in grades 1 to 8 acquire
a deep conceptual understanding of math and build confidence in their
abilities. Operating as a social enterprise, JUMP Math derives a major portion
of its income from sales of print and digital program resources, and teacher
professional development. Its programs are primarily sold to school districts,
schools, and teachers, with all income from program sales and philanthropy
invested to support JUMP’s mission. Philanthropic, networking and
capacity-building support comes from foundations, corporations, and other
organizations, such as LIFT Philanthropy Partners, The J.W. McConnell Family
Foundation, Ashoka, and MaRS. A full list of organizations supporting JUMP Math
can be found at http:jumpmath.org/jump/en/donors//.
JUMP Math has grown
rapidly since its inception and will reach approximately 140,000 students this
school year. In order to continue to build on this trajectory of growth, JUMP
Math has identified the need for an entrepreneurial and mission-driven Director
of Development who will work closely with the VP of Development to build the
philanthropic and impact investment funding portfolio in Canada, the United
States and elsewhere. S/he will conduct prospect research; build relationships
with corporate donors, foundations, high-net-worth individuals and governments,
as well as impact investors; draft and submit grant proposals; maintain
development office functions; and coordinate events and campaigns.
Armed with at least
a bachelor’s degree, the ideal candidate has a minimum of five years of
experience in a professional fundraising or related environment within a
charitable, education, or social enterprise organization. S/he is grounded in
the principals of philanthropy, and has hands on experience: researching
prospects; cultivating new relationships and strengthening existing ones; and
managing pipeline, reporting, and other office functions.
This is a tremendous
opportunity for an energetic, results-oriented fundraising leader to support
the growth of a charitable social enterprise committed to maximizing
educational opportunities for children.
