The Engagement Team Member possesses a friendly & cheerful
disposition, and a good understanding of environmental issues in
Canada. You will help Environmental Defence reach its engagement and
campaign goals by connecting with the public. As a member of the
Engagement Team, you may work on any Environmental Defence campaign;
you might work exclusively on one campaign for a period of time, or
work on multiple campaigns simultaneously.
Key Accountability:
Reporting to the Engagement Team Leader, Ottawa (under the supervision
of the Engagement Manager), the Engagement Team Member will attend
events in Ottawa to engage the public in Environmental Defence
campaigns.
Responsibilities:
• Attend in-person events as a representative of Environmental
Defence, and adhere to Environmental Defence campaign messaging
• Organize Environmental Defence’s participation in events, when applicable
• Ask members of the public to participate in Environmental Defence’s
campaign activities (e.g. sign a petition, sign up for an
e-newsletter, take a pledge, attend a workshop, etc)
• Ensure that data collected at events is treated responsibly and
submitted in a timely manner
• Learn details of the campaign via educational opportunities provided
(e.g. reading material, meetings with campaigners or fellow team
members)
• Provide your own transportation to & from events (transportation or
mileage costs will be covered if the event is not transit accessible)
Qualifications & Skills:
• A calm, friendly, outgoing disposition
• Ability to engage in discussions about a topic you care about while
remaining professional and on point
• Excellent communication skills and a high level of comfort
interacting with the public
• Commitment to the Environmental Defence mission, vision and values
• Demonstrated knowledge of contemporary environmental issues in Canada
• One year of university education (or work / volunteer equivalent)
• Knowledge of environmental science an asset
• Customer service experience an asset
• Valid Canadian Driver’s Licence an asset
