Overview of
Position:
The Senior Manager provides support
and acts as deputy to the Director of
Communications and Information in the development and implementation of
communication strategies designed to advance the advocacy and knowledge
building goals of AWID´s program areas; with emphasis in designing multi media
and online outreach strategies. The Senior Manager will work in AWID’s
Information, Communications and Technology (ICT) area which is make up of three
distinct teams: an IT team; a Production team and an Online Communications
team. The Senior Manager will work closely with the Director to develop program
communications strategies and conceptualise communication products as well as
providing day to day management support for the Online Communications team.

QUALIFICATIONS
7-10 years
experience:
• Developing, implementing and evaluating communication strategies (at least 4
years in a leadership capacity)
• Conceptualising and overseeing the production of print and multimedia content
• Providing leadership and strategic oversight for a range of communication
channels including website, e-newsletters and social media.
• Building engaged online communities
• Leading a multi-cultural team (at least 4 years in a supervisory capacity)
• Working with women’s rights, human rights or social justice organizations,
preferably based in the Global South and/or CEE/CIS
Academic
Qualifications:
• University degree in communications, journalism or other related field.
Expertise &
Skills:
• Proven expertise in translating knowledge building and advocacy goals into
communication actions, campaigns, products and strategic dissemination and
outreach plans.
• Proven ability to conceptualise communications strategies and guide their
implementation across teams and in collaboration with multiple external
partners and allies.
• Proven success in identifying communication niches and opportunities for
partnerships to advance organizational positioning and program goals
• Experience in developing and managing successful multilingual websites,
social media campaigns and email outreach
• Experience in conceptualizing and producing high quality impactful print and
multimedia content
• Proven success in building and managing online communities
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English and Spanish
and/or French
• Strong project management experience; ability to develop, monitor and
evaluate complex work plans with multiple projects, multiple deliverables and
deadlines.
• Strong financial management acumen; knowledge of accounting procedures and
protocols, budgeting and financial analysis
• Experienced in human resource management including coaching/mentoring, and
conducting formal supervision and performance management appraisals; ability to
work with a diverse staff team
• High comfort and tolerance to manage stress and role demands
• Strong interpersonal skills and the proven ability to provide leadership to a
team and to work in a team environment with staff, contractors, and consultants
Other Requirements:
• Able to travel internationally (approx. 2 weeks per year)

Assets:
• Trilingual (English-Spanish-French)
• Experience working in virtual teams across multiple time zones
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Strategic Communications Planning & Production
• In close collaboration with the Director, conceptualise and develop
communication strategies to advance the knowledge building and advocacy goals
of AWID’s five program areas
• In close collaboration with the Director, guide the implementation of
communications strategies and plans across AWID’s program teams
• In close collaboration with the Production Manager, ensure high-quality
content production in line with agreed to communication plans
• Identify and build communication niches for AWID’s program areas and develop
communication partnership opportunities to advance organizational positioning
and program goals.
Online
Communications & Community Building
• Responsible for strategic development of AWID’s online presence including its
website, social media channels and e-newsletters in English, Spanish and French
• Provides leadership in the implementation of AWID´s online communication
strategy which aims to diversify AWID’s audiences among underrepresented
regions, languages and constituencies and ensure effective promotion of AWID
content through effective use of online communications, including social media.
• Ensure ongoing evaluation of online engagement to help build understanding of
where different channels and approaches are adding most value
• Provide strategic direction and oversight for the design and development of
new or improved communication channels including new websites and social media
pages
• Manage relationships with key third party communications suppliers/agencies
Financial and Human
Resource Management:
• Manage the communications staff (three direct reports) and contractors
providing direction, managing performance and overseeing work planning to
ensure appropriate alignment with AWID’s strategic plan
• Delegate appropriate responsibilities and duties to staff for the
implementation of communication activities
• Ensure the timely and effective implementation of deliverables, including all
activities, reports and evaluations
• Provide appropriate leadership, support, training and mentoring for effective
project management and work planning
• Develop, manage and adhere to the communications budget, ensuring adherence
to financial controls, and financial and organizational policies and procedures
Organizational
Processes
• Ensure strategic alignment, information-sharing and maximum synergy with AWID
programs by actively coordinating with other managers as required
• Work with Directors and other managers to address programmatic, human
resource, financial, legislative issues as they arise to ensure that AWID is
effective in achieving its outcomes and as well as undertaking itself as a
strong feminist organization
• Participate actively in leadership teams meetings and in organizational
meeting venues (office and staff meetings)
• Maintain relationships with staff in other teams to facilitate smooth
coordination and communication
