The
Community Engagement Assistant is responsible for supporting the planning and
delivery of community engagement programs and activities in York and Durham
Region. These activities could include community tree and wildflower plantings,
leading nature hikes and clean up events and presenting at homeowner workshops
that focus on native plant gardening, rain barrels, rain gardens and other
stormwater landscaping projects. The Assistant will be expected to provide
excellent customer and client service. Occupational health and safety is a
major responsibility of this position.

KNOWLEDGE:
- Post-secondary
education in environmental science, biology or related discipline; - 2-3
years’ experience assisting with community based programs or services; - Excellent
time management, organizational and interpersonal skills; - Experience
leading nature interpretation activities in the outdoors; - Strong
written and verbal communication skills - Experience
engaging on social media and other electronic communication channels - Previous
experience leading a community environmental project an asset; - Valid
Ontario Driver’s License (G) and access to a personal vehicle daily. - Standard
first aid certification an asset; - Police
check with Vulnerable Sector Screening required; - Ability
to work weekends and evenings;

- Deliver
community engagement activities including interpretive nature hikes,
planting events, litter clean ups and homeowner workshops. - Attend
community partner events with interactive educational activities that engage
the public, share your environmental knowledge, provide resource materials
and collect contact information for future engagement events. - Contribute
to our outreach and promotional targets through our electronic newsletter,
website and social media (twitter). - Assist
with the distribution of promotional materials including event flyers and
brochures. Meet regularly with community partners to build long standing
relationships for joint projects and cross promotion of events. - Regularly
report and track project deliverables to your Supervisor. - Maintain
and update associated databases of contact information for participants
and community partners. - Undertake
other duties, as assigned.
