A
glimpse at the role:
The
Food Innovation Coordinator is RFRK’s ‘hunter’ of new products and ingredients.
They ensure that every new ingredient and product we buy fits with our food
values, guidelines, philosophy, cost specifications, food safety standards and
industry and client requirements. They are responsible for following processes
for new products and ingredients integration into our existing recipes and
menus. With direction from the Chief Food Innovation Officer (CFIO) and
Director of Food Planning, the Food Innovation Coordinator works closely with
third party manufacturers and suppliers to procure and develop
new and exciting products and ingredients.
Some
of the things you’ll get paid to do:
Research
& Procurement
  • Stay
    ahead of the curve on new food trends, products, and suppliers and report
    findings to Food Planning department for planning purposes
  • Source
    and procure new products and ingredients to meet food planning department
    goals
  • Initiate,
    foster and maintain relationships with 3rd party manufacturers and new
    suppliers
  • Work
    with 3rd party manufacturers to develop clear standards and targets for
    new outsourced products
  • Initiate
    and execute cost reduction strategies as outlined by the Director of Food
    Planning and CFIO
  • Apply
    for funding or collaborate with funders for all applicable development
    projects

Required
Education and Experience:
  • University
    degree
  • Project
    management experience
  • Experience
    working in a food environment
  • Numerical
    fluency, including experience with budgeting and costing models
  • Valid
    driver’s license
  • Computer
    skills including Google Apps, Microsoft Office Suite, and project
    management software
Skills
and Personal Attributes:
  • Knowledge
    of food systems, food manufacturers & suppliers, and Canadian food
    industry landscape
  • Negotiation
    skills
  • Strong
    oral and written communication skills, with the ability to communicate
    with various stakeholders
  • Troubleshooting
    and creative problem solving
  • Desire
    to improve kids’ nutrition
  • Research
    skills
  • Strong
    organizational skills, time management skills, and detail orientation
  • Ability
    to tackle multiple projects simultaneously and work in a fast acting
    manner
Nice

  • Bilingual
    in English & French

    Management Professional (PMP) certification
  • Culinary
    skills, a passion for nutritious and delicious food, an excellent palate,
    and exceptional sensory skills
  • Grant
    writing experience, experience claiming and/or documenting relevant
    development information for SR&ED tax incentives
  • Food
    Product Development experience
