Outreach Assistant

Who we are: Ecosource is an innovative environmental organization that empowers
the community to become more environmentally responsible through creative
public education. We specialize in hands-on progra
mming that aims to increase
environmental sustainability in Peel Region and beyond.
The Position: Ecosource is seeking a passionate, creative and self-motivated
individual to conduct research and outreach with local businesses on waste
management strategies. The successful candidate would be conducting research
and assisting the Schools Program Manager and School Waste Action Coordinator
by supporting the Waste Reduction Team with hands-on waste education
programming.
Responsibilities
• Assist with research into waste management practices for small businesses and
BIAs in Mississauga.
• Conduct outreach and build relationships with businesses and community
members in Mississauga.
• Assist staff execution and evaluation of research projects, including,
surveys, focus groups, data integration and analysis.
• Produce written, tabular and visual materials for research reports and
presentations
• Prepare materials and support activities for summer waste reduction programs,
at community events and summer festivals.
• Help organize and facilitate community summer events, including upcycling
trade markets that support communities to reduce and reuse more often.
• Engage local community members through events, presentations, communications
and programs.
Qualification
• Background in education, environmental studies, environmental management,
business or related field
• Experience with youth group facilitation
• Knowledge of environmental issues including waste, energy, and food systems
• Excellent research skills and proven professionality in public speaking and
outreach with members of the community
• Excellent communications skills, both verbal and written, and computer skills
including all MS Office applications
• Energetic, flexible, and self-motivated
• Ability to work independently, in a team, and within various settings,
possessing a sense of humour
• Applicants are required to hold a current driver’s license and must have
access to a car
• Due to requirements of CSJ funding, the successful candidate MUST be 15-30
years of age, legally able to work in Canada, have been enrolled in full-time
studies in the previous year and be returning to full time studies in the fall
of 2016.
Application Information:
This is a part time position at 30hrs per week, paid at a rate of $11.25 per
hour from May – August 2016 for 8 weeks (funding dependent). Some weekend
and evening work may be required.

This position is conditional upon receiving summer employment funding.
