Contract
length: 130 hours (~30 hours/week for 4-5 weeks)
Reporting:
this position reports to the Finance and Admin coordinator, and to the
financial committee of the board of directors
Job
description:
After two full years
of operations in a prolonged start-up period (due to a major change in
operations between year one and two, resulting from the switch from catered to
in-house food preparation), the Hive is taking advantage of the down period /
summer closure to adjust its financial strategy to holistically address the
needs of the organisation in the coming years. These adjustments could be broad
in scope and will form the core of our 3-year organisational strategy moving
forward.
The Strategic Development Temporary Coordinator (SDTC) will coordinate this
process, with some support from the other Hive members, and the Hive’s network
of professional support. With that said, the SDTC is expected to work mostly
autonomously, and can expect that the Hive coordinator acting in support will
be working only 5 hours a week, whereas the SDTC position is for 32.5
hours/week.

Deliverables:
Development of a
thorough and holistic sustainable fiscal strategy for the Hive cafe for the
next three years, in collaboration with the hive Finance and Admin coordinator,
and our network of professional support. The projections should include
financial projections and cash flow forecast for the next three years.
The goal of this strategy will enable the planning of a responsible budget for
the fiscal year of 2016-17.
Qualifications
Minimum
2 years experience in administrative work and experience with finances.
Financial
competence including a clear understanding of margins and pricing, ability to
read financial statements, knowledge of budgeting, forecasting, productivity
analysis, and inventory management/controls techniques.
Excellent
interpersonal skills; communication and listening skills
Familiarity
with the cooperative business model.
Ability
to function in a non-hierarchical environment.
Ability
to balance effective leadership skills with power-sharing abilities in a
communal decision-making cooperative structure and empower all workers.
Strong
organization skills, attention to detail, ability to prioritize workload, and
multitasking
Understanding
of POS systems
Assets
Degree,
diploma, or equivalent experience in business / financial administration
Bilingualism
(French and English)
Previous
experience in a cooperative structure
Previous
experience working in a non – hierarchical work environment
Knowledge
and sensitivity of workplace dynamics including anti-oppression strategies
Experience
working with a POS systems
Understanding
of Concordia organisations and processes
