Communications, Social Media and
Outreach Assistant

Friends of the Earth Canada is recruiting for two summer student
positions in Ottawa to assist in the communications and outreach
aspects of delivering its priority campaigns for the summer on the Bee
Cause and Climate Change & Pensions. Through creative, clear and
compelling web and social media communications you will help drive
engagement and awareness of Friends of the Earth’s work nationally.
Applicants must have been full time students for the 2015/16 academic
year and be returning to school in fall 2016 to be considered for this
program.
Duties and Responsibilities:
• Generate, edit, publish and share relevant content (original text,
images, video or HTML) that builds meaningful connections and
encourages community members to take action through our social media
channels (website, Blog, e-newsletter, Facebook, Twitter and
Instagram).
• Assist in development and coordination of on-the-ground events and
capture and report on these stories (photo/video/text).
• Assist with building and editing e-communications using MailChimp
Email Marketing tool.
• Monitor and coordinate responses to user-generated comments/content.
• Continuously track and report appropriate social data/metrics and
share insights and best practices to effectively improve communication
messaging.
• Collaborate with other key staff members to manage the FOE brand.
Education, Experience & Skills:
• The ability to write creatively, clearly, and compellingly (photo/video/text)
• Experience in public speaking, photography/videography
• Adequate knowledge of with web publishing, HTML, SEO and basic
content management systems.
• Fluency in English. Additional languages is a plus.
• A strong science background is an important plus.
• Team player with positive and enthusiastic attitude.
• Must be organized, detail-oriented and deadline-driven.
• Programming knowledge, Adobe Creative Suite experience a plus.

Duration: 8 weeks
Salary: $13/hour for a 35 hours week
