SUMMARY OF POSITION

trust. The Volunteer Engagement Assistant will be primarily responsible for
recruiting, training, scheduling, and supervising volunteers in the Attic
Thrift Stores, as well as volunteers in other roles where needed.
TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The Volunteer Engagement Assistant responsibilities include assisting with the
recruitment, training, scheduling, and supervision of volunteers, data
collection related to volunteering, gathering feedback from volunteers, using
feedback gathered to update the volunteer handbook or training materials,
helping to prepare reports on the outcomes of volunteering, and assisting with
the coordination of volunteer appreciation event planning. In addition, the
student will be responsible for creating and implementing an outreach strategy,
identifying relevant community events and organizations to coordinate
participation, and attending events as a representative of Gordon Neighbourhood
House and distributing promotional materials.
This position will provide a valuable community based learning experience to
students in all fields of studies, but especially to students in Community
Leadership programs. The student will gain valuable experience in volunteer
coordination, project management, event planning, designing surveys, conducting
interviews and/or focus groups, database management, and fundraising. In
addition, the student will gain skills in organization, community outreach,
written and verbal communications skills, promotion and public relations
skills, and social media skills.
QUALIFICATIONS
• Must be personable, and work well with our staff and volunteers
• Retail or customer service experience is a strong asset (for volunteer
training)
• Conflict resolution skills are an asset
WORKING CONDITIONS
The hours of this position will vary based on the needs of the volunteers (for
training/orientation etc.), and will generally occur between the hours of 10am and
8pm — the Thrift Stores are open 7 days per week. Some flexibility will be
required.
This job requires long periods of standing, and some light lifting.
ELIGIBILITY
Funding for this position may be provided by the federal Canada Summer Jobs
(CSJ) program. Therefore to qualify for these positions, individuals must also
be eligible to participate in the CSJ initiative and:
• Be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment;
• Have been registered as a full-time student in the previous academic year;
• Intend to return to school on a full-time basis in the next academic year;
• Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee
protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act
6 (foreign students are not eligible); and,
• Be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant
provincial/territorial legislation and regulations (foreign students are not
eligible)
