RANGE OF PAY/RATE OF PAY: $12.50- $13.50/hour

JOB SUMMARY:

Reporting
to the Manager of Sustainability, the Sustainable Food Systems Research
Assistant will assist in supporting the project Increasing Local Food
Procurement at Ontario Colleges
. Supported in-part by the Greenbelt Fund
and the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, the project
aims to increase local food procurement at Ontario colleges through the
development of a local food procurement model for foodservices at all 24
Ontario colleges.
The
incumbent will primarily assist in project-related research and reporting. This
position will also support outreach programming on campus and liaise with
community organizations to further project goals. The incumbent should have
strong research and analysis skills as well as a strong interest in sustainable
food systems and sustainability.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
The
duties of this position will include, but are not limited to the following:
  • Assist
    in collecting, analyzing and reporting research data
  • Assist
    in creating databases, data collection forms, and error checking methods
  • Ensure
    efficient and proper handling of research data
  • Assist
    in performing literature reports and maintaining bibliographic databases
  • Assist
    in writing and managing the project e-newsletter
  • Assist
    in report writing
  • Assist
    in supporting the Manager, Sustainability on community projects,
    initiatives and committees external to the college
QUALIFICATIONS:
The
successful applicant must have:
  • Experience
    in qualitative and quantitative research design and execution
  • Knowledge
    of local/sustainable food initiatives
  • Experience
    in the organization and coordination of outreach programs and events
  • Solid
    understanding of sustainability theory (social, economic and
    environmental) and its applications across multiple sectors, and involving
    multiple stakeholders
  • Experience
    writing and editing research reports
  • Experience
    in assisting with the collection and proper handling of research data
  • Strong
    writing and editing skills
  • Strong
    Microsoft Office skills (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, etc.)
  • Experience
    in taking meeting minutes
  • Completed
    their first, second, or third year in a three or four degree
    post-secondary program in Geography, Business, Environmental Science,
    Sociology, or a related degree program, and be returning to school in Fall
    2017
