Overview

Metchosin Farm needs a full time farmer to join our team growing organic seeds
and nursery plants. We are looking for a passionate and experienced farmer
ready to make a long term commitment to working in our growing business. The
position affords opportunities to develop new aspects of the farm business and
be a part of a dynamic, growing farm.

About Metchosin Farm

Metchosin Farm is a seed company and plant nursery specialising in edible
annual and perennial plants, including native and unusual varieties. With a 12
year history, we have established infrastructure, retail outlets and a
recognised local brand. With ten acres of land, we have ample space to continue
expanding as a company, with the ambition of making a significant contribution
to the local seed and food plant supply on Vancouver Island. We currently work
as a team of two co-farmers and one apprentice, and have facilities to host 3-5
temporary volunteers at a time on our property. Metchosin Farm is an ethical
business with a strong community focus, built around organic farming practices.

Seed and Nursery Farmer Position

With the departure of one co-farmer at the end of the 2016 season, Metchosin
Farm will have space for a new farmer to join the team. Starting in the winter,
the successful candidate will have the winter months to adapt to the current
operations of the business, and help plan for the 2017 growing and selling
seasons.

As a small farm business, every member of the team works on the daily running
of the farm. The co-farmer will share responsibility for the seed garden, fruit
bush propagation and plant starts nursery with the Farm Owner. Additionally,
the co-farmer will have responsibility to train two apprentices, and to plan
and supervise the work of seasonal volunteers. They will also be responsible
for maintaining records, working to Organic Standards (certified by IOPA), and
selling farm products through retail outlets, markets and on our website.

We are looking for a new team member, who can join Metchosin Farm and be part
