According to Ikem (2004), there are four major types
of soil erosion that can be in identified and they are;

a. Sheet erosion:
is the removal of the entire top soil to as a result of heavy rain

b. Rill erosion:
runoff water moves across the soil forming small streams the top soil is
removed only in these rills formed by the water stream.

c. Gully erosion:
deep depression called the gullies is formed by swiftly moving waters causing
soil erosion by them.

d. Riparian
erosion: the banks of rivers lose top soil due to the action of the feast
moving rivers waters. These waters remove the underlying soil and this result
in the loss of top soil.
