University of Maryland,Rwanda Partner to the Director of the Centre for Teaching, Learning & Research

The Partner to the
Director of the Centre for Teaching, Learning and Research will work with the
Principal, Deans, and academic and administrative staff in the CMHS of the
University of Rwanda to: establish post-graduate programs, (certificate,
diploma, Masters, and PhD); establish a program to foster research and
scholarly work in the health professions, foster grant-writing; and support
professional development activities within the cou

ntry. While working at a
College level, the holder is expected to focus on the School of Nursing and
Midwifery (SoNM). He/she will report to the Dean of the School of Nursing and
Midwifery.

Responsibilities
include but are not limited to:

  • Working
    with the Principal and colleagues in the College, and with the Deans and
    academic and administrative staff of the College of Medicine and Health
    Sciences to promote the mission, vision and objectives of the University.
  • Providing
    leadership in the establishment of post-graduate programs
  • Ensuring
    that the curricula are evidence-based and reflect the complexity of needs
    for education and professional practice nationally, regionally, and
    globally
  • Collaborating
    with others to generate, apply and disseminate knowledge derived from the
    health sciences
  • Collaborating
    with administrative and academic staff in the College to submit
    comprehensive and timely reports to the Ministries of Health and
    Education, and other bodies
  • Assisting
    with the establishment of budgets and other resource allocation and
    management activities within the College as requested
  • Participating
    in College committees as determined by the Principal, and representing the
    Schools as determined by the Deans
  • Provide
    assistance in promotion of his/her specialty area as needed by the School
    of Nursing

Teaching,
learning and assessment

Working with others in the College to:

  • Ensure
    that policies and procedures are in place to support teaching, learning
    and assessment
  • Ensure
    that faculty members are aware of policies and procedures, and that those
    policies are implemented fairly
  • Assist
    in the development of education and continuing professional development
    resources for students and graduates in the College.
  • Assist
    with faculty development in professionalism, scholarly activities and
    scholarship
  • Establish
    student evaluation of teaching activities, and develop feedback to faculty
    in order to improve program quality
  • Support
    curriculum development, especially of post graduate and specialty programsResearch
    Working with others in the College to:
  • Develop
    and refine research protocols
  • Develop
    and maintain research databases
  • Establish
    relationships with groups and organizations that support research in
    Sub-Saharan Africa
  • Conduct
    a variety of activities related to the development and implementation of
    new knowledge within nursing and midwifery
  • Provide
    research supervision and support for faculty and students in their
    scholarship
  • Assist
    faculty and students in preparing manuscripts and presentations for
    research, quality improvement, and scholarship
  • Provide
    assistance specifically to the SONM faculty, students and staff for the
    preparation, submission and management of grant funding
  • Monitor
    budgets and complete financial reports accurately, on time, and according
    to the standards and protocols set by the University and funding sources

Qualifications

  • PhD in
    Nursing, or MSN with doctoral degree in a related field of study
  • Minimum
    5 years of faculty nursing experience, plus 5 years management experience
    in nursing education administration.
  • Proven
    track record of research, publication, grant writing and curriculum
    design.
  • Ability
    to think strategically, delegate responsibility, listens carefully, build
    consensus and communicate and advocate effectively in a complex matrix
    organization.
  • Exceptionally
    strong organizational, administrative and analytical skills
  • Successful
    track record of achievement in an academic environment
  • Strong
    managerial and leadership skills
  • Highly
    organized and disciplined self-starter with the ability to prioritize
    multiple tasks and deliver to deadlines
  • Independent
    and confident personal style with a high degree of integrity and attention
    to detail
  • Demonstrated
    capacity in leading and facilitating internal and external groups
  • Excellent
    interpersonal skills and experience in faculty and student development
  • Excellent
    communication skills (written, oral, technological). Particularly, the
    ability to interact credibly with people at all levels of the
    organization.
  • Strong
    commitment to and respect for capacity building of colleagues working in
    Rwanda
  • Sensitive
    to cultural environment
