The Mental Health
Nurse Educator will work with colleagues in the Center for Mental Health in the
College of Medicine and Health Sciences. He/she will report to the Dean of the
School of Nursing and Midwifery.
Responsibilities
include, but are not limited to:
- Providing
lectures in aspects of psychiatric nursing to students in the School of
Nursing and Midwifery (SoNM), and other Schools as needed - Providing
faculty development courses in psychiatric nursing to the faculty of the
School of Nursing and Midwifery, and other Schools as appropriate - Participating
in any curriculum review or development activities related to psychiatric
nursing - Consult
with faculty members at the SoNM to incorporate relevant and appropriate
mental health competencies into skills lab and clinical instruction - Developing
a curriculum for continuing education for mental health nurses - Working
with colleagues in the College and at the Ministry of Health in
implementing innovation in mental health delivery services to increase
access to mental health care in all provinces of Rwanda - Providing
assistance in promotion of his/her specialty area as needed by the School
of Nursing
Qualifications
- Master’s
degree or above in Nursing with at least 5 years of experience in
psychiatric nursing - Experience
in curriculum development and revision in nursing/midwifery education - Proven
track record as a leader and expert clinician - Former
position that included nursing education and program development
Preferred
qualifications:
- Excellent
written and oral communication skills - Management
style that is inclusive and collaborative - Willingness
to live in Rwanda for 1 year (with a minimum of 6 months) - Respect
for the experience and expertise of colleagues working in Rwanda - Commitment
to the goals of the Rwanda Ministry of Health and the College of Medicine
and Health Sciences - International
development experience - French
or Kinyarwanda language skills
