OVERVIEW
The BC Association
of Farmers’ Markets (BCAFM) is a non profit membership based organization
that represents over
135 farmers’ markets (non profit societies) throughout the province. BCAFM’s
mission is to support, develop and promote farmers’ markets. BCAFM is currently
seeking a visionary Executive Director who is enthusiastic about the success of
farmers’ markets, local food and agriculture.
KEY
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develop,
plan, implement, and sustain the BCAFM’s strategic plan, with direction
from the Board of Directors - Initiate,
develop, implement and evaluate projects and programs as appropriate under
the strategic plan - Develop
and implement a fund development plan for long-term financial
sustainability - Build
relationships with current and potential stakeholders in the non-profit,
private, and government sectors, including member groups, sponsors,
agriculture industry leaders and project partners - Oversee
major projects led by BCAFM, including participation on steering
committees and project reporting - Work
closely with the Board of Directors, including ongoing work in policy
development - Recruit,
train, manage, and evaluate staff; including administrative activities - Represent
BCAFM at events, meetings, to the media as needed and oversee all
communications with the public and stakeholders. - Financial
oversight and management, including development of annual budget for Board
approval
QUALIFICATIONS
- Minimum
10 years’ managerial experience (preferably in the non-profit sector) - University
degree in Non-Profit Leadership, Marketing, Business, Communications,
Agriculture or other relevant program - Proven
leadership and project management experience leading small or mid-scale
projects - Prior
experience and/or knowledge of strategic planning - Demonstrated
ability in financial management and budget development - Fund
development experience and understanding of various grant and sponsorship
opportunities - Demonstrated
experience in networking and building stakeholder relationships - Demonstrated
training and competency in non-profit governance, including staff and board
roles and responsibilities, and working with a volunteer Board of
Directors - Confident
public speaker and at ease working with political leaders. - Demonstrated
positive approach to working with non-profit, government, and agriculture
sectors towards common goals. - Experience
working successfully on initiatives or programs that are provincial in
scope. - Enjoys
working collaboratively - Strong
understanding of British Columbia non-profit sector and legislation - Excellent
written and oral communications skills - Broad
interest and experience in local food and the success of farming and
agriculture in British Columbia - Ability
and willingness to travel throughout British Columbia as required - Strong
proficiencies in MS Office
